Siyapa v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Wed 25 Jul 2018 at 18.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets
Match report
Gordonians arrived at 'state of the fart facility of Sheddocksley to find there was no pitch prepared for the game! After much confusion and reluctance, it was decided to have a game after all. No will paper or lawyers were available immediately so players made verbal arrangements in case of anyone (or two) demises playing in this facility, only AB excused himself from this arrangement as ran out of fortune cookies since the 7s tournament!
Gordos Skipper Indy won the toss and decided to put Siyapa in to bat on a cabbage patch strip which that looked fit for growing beetroot which lacked supply lately in local Tesco! The plan was to exploit every little help available for bowlers.
Siyapa’s innings started off with some siyapa as their opener was run out first ball! Although there was an element of obstruction, but with Grades secretary standing in as a neutral umpire and with lengthy discussion with the leg umpire it was adjudged out! However, Indy called the batsman back just to return the favour to Siyapa during the first leg of league game at Counteswells and the spirit of the game was upheld. Siyapa openers struggled to time the ball due to the awfulness of the pitch, so they waited for bad balls to dispatch to the boundary. They also ran hard to accumulate runs which was well aided by frequent shoe laces tie up! Dolman bowled through his spell and conceded 17 runs but without any wickets to show for his tremendous effort. First wicket to fall was Shahid who's strong pull to a half tracker by AB met the toe of the bat and gifted easiest of catches to AB. Memon who batted aggresively, tried to walk down the pitch in his usual way to Chamila in his first over but managed a top edge which landed in Indy's gloves, rather unsafely! From this point on, Gordos pulled things together well and kept picking up wickets at regular interval. Chamila changed ends and bowled at tandem with Aayush and their inswings-leg spin combination had Siyapa batsmen in all sorts of trouble! Both bowlers picked 2 wickets each and controlled the innings well. No dominating bowling display of Gordonians completed without at least a wicket to master's name, so Jamil made sure today was no exception as he picked up his scalp by bowling Naveed. Siyapa finished off at 129, which was a formidable target in this pitch!
Gordonians opted for their usual Saturday opening pair of Indy and MK, instead of 20/20 opening pair of AB/MK. The idea was to protect AB's prized wicket. However, the opening stand yet again crossed a century mark, with Mk doing most of the damage. He batted ruthlessly and hammered Siyapa bowlers all over the park, rather say 'valley of sheddocksley'! Indy also played some glorious shots to compliment the opening partnership. Mk was bowled on a well made 57 when tried to reverse sweep Ghafoor, but it showed his confidence level was at a high. Next man Viraj was still thinking the whole game was a prank as he couldn't believe the conditions were fit for cricket! He was put out of his shock by Ghafoor who picked up his second wicket. Next batsman Chamila, on the other hand was familiar with the condition and didn't look too concerned. He went about his business as usual by scoring and running quickly. In the meanwhile Indy reached 50, his second in the cup competition with scores tied! Chamila hit the winning runs in the 16th over and Gordonians were home with 29 deliveries to spare. A good comprehensive win by Gordonians against a strong Siyapa side. This sees Gordonians meet Fraserburgh in the final at Mannofield on 19th August which promises to be a good contest!
