Match report On a gloomy yet dry day at Counteswells, Gordonians hosted Methlick CC for a must win game to keep their promotion hopes alive! The pitch had a green top but looked true and the outfield looked lush thanks to the recent wet spells. Gordos Skipper Indy won the toss, a rare occurrence this season, and decided to bowl first. Jamil and Dalgarno started off well with hardly any runs coming off the bat. First couple of wickets went to Dalgarno for his controlled line and length bowling and some very good slip catching by Amith. When Dalgarno sent back both Methlick openers back in the hut, the charge was taken over by A Robson who looked a class apart! He batted brilliantly and anchored the innings of Methlick as well as being the main scorer! He battled several Gordos bowlers quite capably, mainly Chamila who looked most threatening of Gordos bowlers on the day. A Robson stitched a fantastic 110 before he was bowled by Chamila in the penultimate over. That 110 was extremely crucial towards the total of 192 made by Mehtlick because second best score belonged to 'Extras' worth of 26!

After tea, Gordos opened the innings with unusual opening pair of Amith and Mk. The plan did not work as Amith was played on by Duffy in the first over! Things looked even more grim in the second over when other opener Mk was caught at point! This brought the experienced duo of AB and Jamil into the middle and they absorbed all the pressure by batting sensibly for next few overs. AB started to open up once the nerves were settled and played some glorious shots. The partnership ticked along nicely until the point AB was caught in the mid wicket off C Shorten. In comes Chamila, who resembles batting attitude of AB and together with Jamil they built a nice little partnership. The score went past 100 mark in the process and soon after that Chamila also fell to A Hill. Gordos skipper Indy walked in and started playing positively. Jamil has played many anchor roles during the 2018 season for the winning cause, but perhaps this innings was the most crucial to date. He supported Indy exceptionally by running well between the wickets as well hitting occasional boundaries. Indy along with Jamil was taking the game away from Methlick at a calculated pace but Gordos lost Jamil when he was bowled for 48, missing out on a well deserved 50. Still 11 required of 4 overs and in comes Stuart Dalgarno. He struggled against the incoming deliveries and played out a maiden in the process. However a couple of good overs compensated for it and Gordos overhauled the target with only 3 balls to spare!

Methlick not only used 7 different bowlers at various size of spells but also tried different tricks which are not by the books to derails the chase, but it was not to be the case as long as captain Indy was in the crease! He marshaled the Gordos over the line with an unbeaten 56 and kept the promotion hopes well and truly alive!
