Match report What promised to be the game of the season for Gordos had the stage perfectly set up. Dry, flat, hard pitch coupled with lush green fast outfield of Counteswells, the best facility at the moment in ACA Grades Cricket! Gordos Skipper Indy won the toss and decided to bat first on what looked like a good batting surface. However, Gordos didn't get off to a good start as they lost Indy in the first over when he feathered one down the leg side to the keeper and walked! Other opener Mk built a decent partnership with next batter AB until Mk was bowled for 22. Next man Jamil, who has batted well so far this season was again up to the task. But he fell after a well made 15 after just 15th over. Ellon's I.Doss was bowling well and picked up 2 more wickets in the same over and reduced Gordos from 74 for 2 to 74 for 5! The complexion of the game changed but next man in Stephen Devlin had some other ideas. He knew if Gordos bat out the overs then they can get to a decent total to put up a fight and that's exactly what he did. He batted well with the Gordos lower order and with the help of small partnerships took the score to 155 in the 43rd over until his vigil came to an end when he was adjudged LBW, the final final wicket. Devlin's 35 was a reminder to other Gordos batsman as to how one should apply themselves during tough situation.
After a nice tea, Gordos went out to defend a below par score at this ground. Gordos skipper tried as many as 7 different bowlers to get the game under control but with such a low score and amazingly good wicket to bat on, Gordos were always chasing the game. Ellon opener S.Davies batted sensibly for 66 not out to see his side home. He was ably supported by good knocks from C.White and T.Proctor who made 26 and 29no respectively. Gordos newly found spinster Mk bowled well and so as veteran Jamil. Each bagged a wicket against their names.
All in all Ellon was a better team on the day and they bettered Gordos in all 3 departments. Hopefully Gordos will soon revive their form and get back to winning ways in the second half of the season.
