Methlick v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Sat 19 May 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 46 runs

Match report M Knight Shyamalan has scripted and directed some amazing movies but 'The Last of the Air Benders' wasn't his finest work, but yet it might have inspired the script of Gordonians vs Methlick game - 'The last of the Rule Benders'! Although the story started off nicely with a bright sunny day and nice looking pitch and outfield, the story did not live up to the expectation! Gordos skipper lost the toss and got lost in translation which caused a confusion whether they were bowling or batting first! After that initial drama settled in, Gordos went out to bat and the first two balls that swung past the leg side was called wide and chaos broke out! Every player became ECB appointed umpire who 'specialised' in Grades cricket rules and the name of the script was born - the Rule Benders! After the situation calmed down, it was agreed that so called Grades cricket specific wide ball rule will apply, whatever that might be. Gordos non-playing members who volunteered to umpire for the day were seriously questioning their decision of volunteering at this point! Game restarted, Tim Duffy bowled well to get rid of openers Mk and Indy. AB and Jamil once again steadied the ship and as usual AB turned this Gordos ship into a Pirate ship as he started robbing runs off their bowlers so cruelly that at one point couple of them had emotional breakdowns! Stumps were kicked, repeated beamers were bowled, but nothing could deter AB from notching up another centruy! After AB departed, Methlick saw some light at the end of the tunnel of opportunity but they didn't know it was Mathi-Aayush Train! They played handy knocks to take the score close to 250, a very competitive score at this ground!
After the break Mathi and Dolman opened the bowling and bowled with great control and discipline. Methlick openers knew the hay days of draw are gone and they had to go after the score and so they did! Some big shots with lots of running due to big boundaries caused their opener Mark to retire hurt. Next man Tom reached quickly to 13, with some help from the leg umpire, but that number proved unlucky for him too when he was caught off Jamil's cutters! Kennedy played some lovely shots and threatened the Gordos total but Misha had other ideas about Methlick's run chase as he got Kennedy out. In short succession Misha disturbed the stumps couple of times and bent the direction of run chase from north to south! This gave opportunity to test out youngsters Mk and Pranav to round their arms too for short spell which they faired well. It all ended with an anti-climax when a bullet throw by AB on top of the stumps gathered by Indy to break the stumps with minimal effort for a run out, not before AB created the perfect 'dummy of fumble'. Methlick reached mighty 201 with just loss of 8 wickets as two of their batters retired hurt.
Once again a well deserved MoM goes to AB for his impressive 110, well done to him!
