Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI v Crescent on Sun 18 Jul 2021 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Gordonians won the toss and asked Crescent to bat in the Aberdeenshire Cup semi final. Qureshi and Thangaraj took risks with some sharp singles early on, but the scoring was under control as Gordonians rotated their bowlers. Hegde was the 5th bowler used in the 13th over when Thangaraj gave a sharp catch to Shaikh at slip for 17. Tahseen didn't last long as he shovelled Hegde in to the leg side for Peerless to take the catch and Pewekar smacked a low drive to Gowda who pulled off a one handed special to reduce Crescent to 60 for 3. Qureshi had made it to 38 when he holed out to Barman off Hegde. Khanna and Sharma batted together for 9 overs before Barman caught Khanna for 23 off Bashir. Mehta made a tricky catch look easy to remove Sharma and it was 133 for 7 as Perera took yet another sharp catch for Gordonians. In amongst the catching display, Gowda pulled a hamstring chasing down a ball that was on its way to the boundary, even dragging himself along the ground to scoop the ball back. The game was halted whilst he found a comfortable position to nurse the pain and a phone call was made to see if the groundsman would ferry him to the pavilion in the buggy. Any hopes Crescent had of an acceleration had gone and they were all out for 155, Vitthala, who had an impressive day behind the stumps, took the final catch in the 38th over. Hegde finished with an impressive 8 overs 3 for 21, but with Shaikh, Perera and Mehta having numerous overs in the bank, Gordos always had options if Crescent had tried to up the scoring.
Barman got the Gordos reply off to a great start creaming a delicious drive through the covers for 4, but he was out off the 3rd ball as he middled a cut straight to point. Whilst Hegde settled in, Bashir seemed to have a plan for every ball and was eagle eyed when looking for quick singles. As the partnership speeded up, Hegde was caught for 33 in the 20th over, the partnership worth 83. Perera had persuaded his skipper that he was ready to build an innings, and he did, but in the same swashbuckling style we are used to! He took the score to 134 with 5 well middled boundaries in a 47 run partnership before a totally misjudged run out saw him dismissed for 29 off 29 balls. Bashir had been taking a run off every ball but seemed to lose a bit of impetus after the run out, and he perished for 48 off 70 balls with the score on 138 in the 29th over. Pandit joined Khosla, and the latter demonstrated his unique ability to stroll a single as Gordos coasted to victory in the 34th over.
Grammar await Gordos in the final at Mannofield on 22nd August, 10 years since our last Shire Cup win, and 30 years since the Bews, Lowden, Gray vintage won the cup in 1991.
