AGSFP's 2nd XI v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Sat 30 Jun 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 8 Wickets

Match report Most of the Gordonians’ players arrived at the Rubislaw in their shorts and t-shirts responding to above average temperature readings that has been sweeping the country! Gordos were lucky to field a full team on the day as combination of availability issue hit them on the same day! Grammar’s stand in skipper lost the toss and was put in to bat first. The usual opening pair of Jamil and Dolman opened the bowling and barely gave anything away to the Grammar batsmen! Dolman brought the first breakthrough by clean bowling Grammar skipper A.Sood. A double change with Dalgarno and Scott brought double blow, with wicket apiece to their name. Soctt’s pace was too hot handle for many of the Grammar batters but it wasn’t producing wickets as the Grammar batsmen hardly tried to play any shots. V.Karmilla’s statuesque batting style made him look unfazed at anything that was happening around him and he batted, or rather stood his way to 26 which was highest by a Grammar batsmen in this game. Gordos played some good cricket during the middle phase of the Grammar innings when they fielded and bowled well which dried out the runs. Frustration brought wrong call for runs and J.Lord was run out by a good throw in by Viraj. As seen several times during this World Cup fever season - some ‘counter-attack’ was attempted by S.Winstanley on the Gordos bowling while doing running commentary to each shot played. Fate and direction of every dispatched ball was predicted or rather shouted out until a well-connected airborne ball was plucked out of mid-air by Scott Rowell at mid-off. Bowler was young Pranav who bowled a tidy 5 over spell 1 for 15. Karmilla perished soon after this when Jamil returned to bowl his second spell. After this it was more of attempt to bat the overs and accumulate as many batting points possible for Grammar. A returning spell by Scott saw the tail of Grammar getting swept aside as he bagged further 3 wickets to finish Grammar innings at 141.

Both teams enjoyed the France Argentina game during the tea break during which 3 goals were scored! Mohit and Viraj was sent in to open the batting for Gordos. Mk’s new warrior blade was in for a test and it passed with flying colours! Balls flew off it all over the park as he scored very quickly. First wicket to fall was Viraj when he nicked one behind. Skipper Indy walked in looked busy and grabbed every scoring opportunity. Mk and Indy took the game away from Grammer as they stood on top of their bowlers. A drop in concentration saw Mk playing a half-hearted shot which ballooned in the mid-off region and pouched comfortably. With 20 odd more runs to win, Jamil came in provided support to Indy and left him to get the runs as he was settled by then. Gordos comfortably got over the line in 24th over without losing any further wicket. Overall a good performance which reflected in the scorebook by Gordos and it was good to get back on to winning ways. Next week Gordonians face stern challenge of Stonehaven away.
