Match report May Bank Holiday weekend saw Gordos 2nd XI kicking off their Grade 1 campaign as a newcomer! They were up against AGSFPs who have been league toppers for past few years! On a cold, wet day when one should be sipping on a warm bowl of tomato soup or a maybe a scotch, the boys in whites were aching to play some cricket! Gordos skipper Indy won the toss and elected to bowl first. Gordos opened with experienced Jamil and Mathi. Jamil got the first breakthrough by catching Proud off his own bowling for a duck! Keith continued to play positively and dispatched anything that was pitched up, until one of of many Gordos debutant Amar Mirashi bowled him for 49. Nattrass batted sensibly and scored a fine 22 until a wrong call saw him getting run out by a direct hit by Jamil! McKinney was out caught by Mirashi, bowled by another Gordos debutant Rajneesh Rattan. Senthil was the next man in and he looked in a hurry. He was soon joined by Karan who calmed nerves down and played some glorious shots. Karan was dropped at 32 and he made Gordos pay heavily for it by scoring a massive 129 not out! He was supported by Senthil, Morrison and Challa to the best of their abilities and scored ticked over consistently. After 45 overs AGSFPs put on a large total of 275, mainly thanks to Karan for the brilliant knock.

After tea, Gordos started their chase with Indy and Adi. The new opening pair played cautiously and first man to fall was Indy when he had a sudden rush of blood to his head! The opening stand lasted 17 overs and produced a 63 run partnership! Jamil was next man in who played a good hand with mixture of caution with aggression. Adi in the meanwhile played a few big shots and reached 27 before was undone by a bouncer from Challa. Next man Taj was also debuting for Gordos and both Taj and Jamil had a decent partnership which involved some big shots and plenty of running between the wickets, although the running between the wicket was not the highlight of their partnership. Jamil was Challa's second victim when he missed a straight one which perhaps kept a bit low. Next man Kamal didn't last for too long and probably got one of the few good deliveries from Proud which cleaned him up. Chamila was next one in and he provided some support to Taj who was playing a good hand. McKinney was introduced to the attack in 33rd over and made immediate impact by removing Chamila. Next man in Hafeez, who in his usual fashion hit 2 massive sixes before falling victim to McKinney. McKinney picked up further 3 wickets, one of them was Taj who scored a handy 26. Gordos inning folded at 43rd over with score reading 178.

Gordos had their taste of Grade 1 cricket and lost their first game by 97 runs, however they secured 16 valuable points from this game and more importantly learned a few lessons too. Next week Gordos entertain Cults at home and then travel to Ellon on Sunday for the first round of Aberdeenshire Cup.
