Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI v Fraserburgh on Sat 21 Jul 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report On an overcast and gloomy day at Counteswells, Gordonians welcomed league topper Fraserburgh for a tasty encounter! Gordonians have lost the previous leg when the two team met at the Broch and it was a must win game for Gordos if they wanted to remain in promotion contention. Fraserburgh skipper Fraser won the toss and decided to bat first as they had only 9 players to start with. With the regular opening bowler Dolman missing, it was Jamil the 'master' and skipper Indy opened the bowling. They both contained the Broch innings well for first 12 overs with scoring rate less than 2 runs per over and sending one opener back in the hut! First change Jamie Richards bowled at a lively pace but struggled with the left-right combination. From the other end Ian bowled an interesting spell which saw ball travelling in the air frequently but in safe zones! Introduction of Chamila brought reward for the disciplined bowling so far and he picked up the key wickets of Fraser in his first spell! Change of end for Chamila brought furhter calamity to Broch innings as he regularly picked wickets from one and supported by controlled bowling from other end. With only 8 wickets to available, Broch innings ended at 115 at the stroke of 37th over! Chamila finished off with a superb figures of 5 for 22!

After yet another nice tea, Gordos went out to chase the target. As juniors have done exceptionally well with the ball so far the in this season for second team, Gordos skipper decided to test their batting mettle and so went young Adi out to open the innings with experienced Mk. As expected, Adi ably supported Mk to score the runs while he saw off the main threat of Fraser by absorbing most of his overs! Mk was first wicket to fall at 13th over, but he got to his 50 at a brisk rate by that time. Next man AB came in and played some big shots to ease the nerve at Gordos camp, but he too fell when the score reached 100! Only 15 required and the with the win within sight, Adi who was batting very well, tried to play a big shot and perished. Young Naman joined Amith, who scored a crucial ton earlier in the season at the same ground, and batted comfortably till the end. Amith was in mood and it showed as he finished things off in style by hitting 4 and a 6 in the first 2 deliveries of 21st over! Game, Set, Match for Gordos!

Due to the lack of players and different playing conditions as compared to Broch, the quality of the game did not live up to the expectations. However, a win is a win and for Gordos it was an important one to stay within the reach of promotion target. Next Saturday Gordos will host 2nd Knightriders on the Conteswells grass pitch, but before that they travel to Sheddocksley on Wednesday to face Siyapa one more time for the Bon Accord cup Semi Final clash!
