Match report On a promising forecast of sunny day Gordonians arrived at Graots road ground for their first away game of the season. Personalised number plated Land Rover of famous curry house in the car park lifted the hopes of an incredible tea even higher for Gordos! After all the formalities, both skippers walked to the middle at 12:50 for toss. KRCC won the toss and asked Gordos to bat first. Indy and Mohit started the innings cautiously with Indy hitting 2 sixes in 3rd and 5th over. A sudden rush of blood made MK play a rash shot which was caught at point. In comes last week's centurion Amith who started things off carefully. He played some nice shots and just when you thought he was settling in, he miscued a shot which prbably wasn't there to be hit, Gordos lost its second wicket. Next in was AB who started his innings in a typical manner - by hitting a huge six over deep mid wicket! AB kept dominating the bowling and along the way rode his luck a little too. Things were ticking along nicely until Indy managed to nick one behind to the keeper who claimed the catch the at a half volley. A lengthy discussion between both umpires concluded it was a clean catch and Gordos lost a set batsman just before drinks. Next man Jamil is used to situation like this and he thrived. AB and Jamil batted sensibly to take Gordos total to 185 before AB got out to pick of the bowlers A.Kumar for 83! Young Aayush was in next and looked solid. A poor running between the wickets saw both Jamil and Aayush staring at each other in the middle of the wicket when KRCC decided to take bails off at Jamil's end. Mad-Max Mathi was in next and tried to throw kitchen sink at everything but couldn't get his timing going. Meanwhile Aayush played a few gloriously timed shots to the boundary. Gordos finished 223 after their 45 overs.
Gordos had a job to do so stuffing themselves during tea break was not a good idea and they did not. Jamil and Dolman shared the new ball and it was Dolman who produced an edge of his 4th ball which saw the back of KRCC's most prominent batter V.Nangia. Dolman had his second when he clean bowled B. Chinnaiyan with a beautiful inswinging delivery! First change Mathi bowled with great control but it was Aayush who spun a web around KRCC batting. He drifted, spun, googlied (not sure if it's a word) and what not and in the process picked up 3 crucial wickets including KRCC Skipper P.Ballal to a good catch by Gerry at mid-off. Misha took over the end at the end of Aayush's spell and swept aside any last resistances with his accurate bowling by picking up 3 wickets too. A returning spell of Dolman saw another edge of his first ball which turned out he is on hat-trick! An attacking field was set, MK and Amith was in his full flow of verbal encouragement, but it was a left-hander! The hat-trick delivery was eventually bowled after 3 wides down the leg side and Gordos had to wait for their first hat-trick of the season. Final wicket was picked up by Jamil on his return spell and it was all over at 135!
This game showed batting on tricky surface requires patience and importance of holding on to your catches to dominate the game. 99 reasons to remember the game but the tea ain't one. Next week Gordos host Siyaapas at home.
