Inverurie v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report Gordonianas arrived at Kellands Park to play their 6th round league game against league toppers Inverurie CC. Overnight heavy rain meant the outfield was still wet but home side worked hard through the morning to make sure the playing condition is playable. Having covers on the pitch also helped the cause but it was still a green top with lot of moisture in it, a ‘bowl first and skittle opposition’ sort of a surface! That’s exactly what happened when Inverurie skipper Chris Watson won the toss and asked Gordos to bat. Gordos opener Indy and MK found it hard to get going against G Coutts and J Moore and played out 4 maidens in a trott, MK falling for nought in the process! Next man Taj, who has been batting well in last few games, was unlucky to get caught at short cover when a bullet shot got stuck in T Norval’s hand, much to his own surprise! Another batsman out without bothering the scorers! Next man Shaunak was debuting for 2s and showed good composure in challenging conditions. But the calamity continued, and Indy was the next man out, caught at second slip by his counterpart off G Coutt’s bowling! At this stage the scoreboard had a 3-headed race between ‘slow’ wickets, ‘steady’ overs and ‘quick’ runs, but overs was edging past the rest with wickets not too far behind! Next batsman Rajneesh changed that and showed the rest of Gordos batters as to how to bat on a challenging wicket. He scored at a good rate and negotiated with good deliveries well. Rajneesh and Shaunak had the only meaningful partnership of the game while Rjaneesh did the bulk of the scoring. Shaunak’s vigil came to and end when he was bowled by J Thom. After this there was not much resistance offered by Gordos batters. Second bowling pair of J Thom and A Johnston bowled accurately at a good pace which troubled the rest of the Gordos line up and they were all out for only 49 in the 22nd over!

It was agreed to start the second innings straightaway as the first inning finished within 25 overs. Gordos knew they had to do something different and Chamila found a new opening bowling partner MK! Chamila bowled well and had G Hadden playing on to claim the only scalp for Gordos. MK bowled a few good deliveries but wasn’t consistent enough to trouble the batsman. Indy also tried his arm as he was free from his keeping duties but couldn’t find another breakthrough. Inverurie rattled through the runs without much trouble and got over the line in the 12th over!

It was a complete thrashing for Gordos at the hands of a very experienced Inverurie CC, who are rightly a front runner in the title race. Playing with an understrength and 10 men team didn’t help the cause for Gordos and they hoped for a better show next day at Mannofield for Quarter-Final clash against the home team.
