Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Perth Doocot on Sun 28 May 2017 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report The defence of the CS Challenge Cup brought Perth to Countesswells and, having won the toss, Perth decided it was a batting pitch and got the pads on. With Ferguson not feeling well, it was Knoesen and Taylor who opened, and it was slow going as Himanshu and Chamila bowled tightly and gave little away. They were aided by excellent ground fielding, Dalgarno in particular demonstrating a youthful exuberance.
If the saying 'catches win matches' is true then Gordonians were staring in to the abyss as chance after chance hit the deck. The openers had put on a far from fluent 54 before Taylor was bowled by Mayank in the 17th over. Khalil got an inside edge on to the stumps 2 overs later, another wicket for Mayank. Knoesen had rarely got in to 2nd gear with his running between the wickets and it was no surprise when a throw from Aman ran him out for 29. Next over and Ali was run out by Debo, his bat looking to be off the ground in a tight decision. McCreanor had hit a lovely boundary, but an outside edge off Abrar was easily caught by Chamila, and Perth had slumped to 82 for 5.
Enter Brown and Ferguson, with an average age that would test an abacus, but also a shed load of experience that steadied the ship. Neither looked entirely comfortable, but they hoisted the score to 131, before they both perished, Ferguson having smacked Arora for the only 6 of the innings. The tail crumbled and Perth were all out for 142 in the 37th over.
Sree and Aman started slowly....for the first 11 balls, and then the runs flowed, Aman superbly timing a Sarral delivery to leg. The score had rattled on to 45 in the 8th over when Aman played all around a Knoesen delivery, bowled for 17, but this had included some sumptuous shots. Hamza only needed a couple of sighters before he took absolute control of the innings. This was batting of a chess like level, quick singles to pull the field in, and then sheer brutality to clobber anything short or over-pitched to the boundary. As soon as the field went out, he picked off gaps making it a really difficult task to set any sort of field. Sree at the other end had played and missed at a couple early on, but he joined in the batting masterclass as the scoreboard rattled along at great speed. It was nip and tuck as to who would reach 50 first, but his 8th four saw Hamza win the race off only 41 balls. Thankfully he was aware that Sree was sitting on 49 and he pushed a single to rotate the strike, Sree duly smashing another boundary to bring up his 50 off 56 balls.
The match was won in the 21st over, all the bowlers suffering, and Gordonians through to the next round somewhat more comfortably than they may have expected.
