Match report Gordonians kicked off their new Season at Counteswells artificial pitch on a 'Sunny' day against St Modans. Gordos skipper Indy Pandit won the toss and decided to bowl. The returning club legend Chamila Perera opened the bowling with captain Indy and immediately made an impact in his first over by trapping Tony Pollock LBW for 5. He further gained momentum when he removed the danger man Sean in the sixth over for a duck, brilliantly stumped by Yanki down the leg! Indy was bowling miserly from the other end but no wickets to show for it and that called the first change with Sabbir. However, Chamila continued with his wily inswingers and kept picking up wickets and soon bagged his 5-for in just 12th over! Sabbir joined the party by rattling stumps couple of times! The highest scorer for St Modans, Vignesh, was one of his victims. Chamila could have ended up with 7 wickets if catches were held on to but he was happy to come off after his 7 overs. This introduced Nadeem to the attack and he did a marvellous sweeping of the tail job! 2 overs-2 maidens-3 wickets! Boom, and the 1st innings folded for 70 runs in exact 17 overs! Although this was way below par score at counteswells but skipper Indy felt that 10-15 extra runs were leaked!

Gordonians set out to chase the runs straightaway with Sabbir and newcomer Avassh opening the innings. Avaash got a peach of a delivery that shattered his stumps in just the first over! No panic as the other newcomer Hannan walked in confidently to face the challenge. He was looking comfortable in the middle until a rush of blood made him charge the in-form bowler, just to entice an edge to the keeper. Experienced campaigner Mayank walked in to camlm things down but he also gave a feather edge to the keeper for 2 runs! Next man Emad also didn't last long and he was adjudged LBW in the 7th over with score reading 35 for 4! Nervy moments and it needed someone to stop the rot! Captain Indy walked in to support Sabbir who was did bulk of the scoring until that point! However, the pressure of losing wicket got to him and he got bowled next over playing a horizontal bat shot! Not what the doctor ordered! Abu won the last year's 2nd XI batting award and captain Indy found an able ally to rebuild. Together they stitched a small partnership of 22 runs and took the score to 63 and the end was in sight but the Sean McPake of St Modans had last few trump cards in his pocket! He bowled Indy with a searing yorker and did a Ctrl+C-Ctrl+V to bowl Chamila in the same over! All of a sudden the target seemed quite a distant one! But Gordonians own 'pocket dynamite' Nadeem is built different and he showed excellent composure under pressure by playing good confident shots and took us over the line. Gordos won at the 15th over by 3 wickets to spare!

Couple of intesting facts about the game - Gordos played the whole game with 10 men as their PSL draftee player decided not to show up! Also, St Modans wicket keeper did not wear keeping pads!

Overall, it was a shaky but positive start of the season for Gordonians. The Game was played with very good spirit and definitely more enjoyable than Grade 1 cricket!
