Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Aberdeenshire on Sat 14 Aug 2021 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Gordonians CC arrived at Counteswells on a gloomy, overcast day to learn the 'Home Team' changing room was taken over by the visiting noisy neighbours! Aberdeenshire CC used traditional warm-up drills while Gordonians CC used the prep work as their own warm-up methods and few chose the sprint from the car park to the ground just before 1 pm start! Gordos skipper Yanki won the toss and inserted Shire into bat! Shire skipper Reid opened with ex-Gordos prodigy Aayush Das! Gordos were missing the services of Himanshu and Aman this weekend which saw Chamila making a return to 1st team and sharing the new ball Prashant Srinivasan. The duo bowled with great control and made run scoring a hard work for the Shire openers! Reid survived a close shout which took the inside edge and pad and then ended up in 1st slip but turned down. He couldn't capitalise on that chance as he was eventually adjudged LBW off Chamila's bowling! Another Shire promising junior Horne joined Das in the middle and they used the young legs to good use! Run rate steadily crept up and a good partnership of 53 was formed by the dynamic youngsters until Das drove straight to extra covers off Wig's bowling! Abrar bowled his leg break with the mixed effect but couldn't bring a breakthrough which forced the introduction of Pandit's spin masterclass! Skipper Yanki brought his bowling prowess to the party from the other end and both bowled a tight spell at a tandem! Pandit's first victim was Munro when he charged down the wicket, only to miss a straight one, calmly collected and stumped by young Abhilash! Horne was keeping the shire innings together and found ways to score runs in more adverse conditions but he fell for a well-made 41 by top-edging Pandit which was met by the safe hands of running Wig! New batsman Ken was unfortunate to face the perfect inswinging yorker by Yanki that has broken several bats in Gordos net sessions! Chandu and Elliott tried to maintain some sort resistance but run scoring was drying up fast! Yanki bowled with good control and produced quite a few unplayable deliveries and one such broke the stumps of Chandu with scores sitting 117 for 5! Elliott was joined by Shai and they tried to enforce singles far too often which were not there for taking but one such single met with arguably Gordos' best fielder Yanki and Elliott found himself scrambling short of his crease! Further two wickets also fell by the way of run outs and Shire innings never really picked any momentum! Srinivasan bowled a test match line and length for his return spell which frustrated the shire last pair and they finished on 140 for 9 after 45 overs! It looked like a below par score even though the pitch was on slower side with sluggish outfield!
The next chapter of the innings write up itself gives goosebumps which leaves to one's imagination how it felt by the live observers! AB opened with Debo and the former was on a mission - literally! AB wanted a score the fastest 50 of the season for Gordos and he meant business from the word 'Go'! Debo was unfortunate to get LBW in the first over which had an inside edge! However that didn't change the approach of AB. Pandit had the best seat in the house while he saw the AB took shire bowling attack apart from the non-striker's end! Gordos crossed 50 mark within 6 overs and the carnage slowed down a bit in 'relative' terms! Pandit was bowled by Elliott for 5 and that brought Wig to the crease. Wig struggled to get going and holed out at extra cover which introduced skipper Yanki. A few wise words might have done the trick which saw AB going from 'Conan the Barbarian' mode to more of a 'Assassin Creed' mode! Runs still came thick and fast but in a sane way! Both experienced campaigners AB and Yanki made sure there are no further casualty during the run chase and they almost achieved it until Yanki was bounced out by M.Elliott with score reading 136. Last few runs were overhauled calmly with AB falling agonisingly short of a sensational ton, reaching 97 not out! Shire used 6 different bowlers including spin of Aayush which stemmed the flow of runs a little but didn't bring any breakthrough! Overall Gordos won the local derby in a comprehensive/borderline dominating manner despite of missing a few of their premium players! It begs to imagine what could have been the scene if Gordos went in with full strength!
