Match report With Mayank overseas the call of the coin toss was left in the safe hands of Swapnil Rane. The toss was duly won and he elected to get some batting practice before the visit to Falkland next Saturday. A lot of heavy rain had fallen during the week but the pitch looked good. Abrar and Aman opened the batting and were probably a bit surpised to face slow bowlers from both ends. Abrar hit Shafi for consecutive fours in the first over but Aman was a little bit more watchful to the next over from Muhammad, although Abrar favoured a different approach, and with 8 going on to the board off his next over, Muhammad was replaced by the pace of Ahmed. Dropping Abrar is never a good idea, but on this occasion, Shafi bypassed the fielders and got a big inside edge on to the stumps to remove Abrar for a brisk 27. Sandy Richards had a lot of cricket under his belt so it was a surprise when Shafi bowled him 4th ball, although this may well have been the best ball of the day. 7 overs up and Gordonians 34 for 2.
From there it was steady consolidation from Aman and Himanshu and when drinks were taken it was 93 for 2 off 22 overs. Then the 50 partnership became the 100 partnership and then the 150 partnership, Himanshu overtaking Aman to post the first half century. Himanshu was looking to hit the ball a long way and one went out of the ground past the tearoom. His 84 ball knock was brought to an end by Joya, but he had scored 86, including 5 sixes and 4 fours. Aman was on 70 and it was looking as though he might run out of overs to post a ton. Swapnil took a few balls to get the measure of the pitch, and then looked to rotate the strike, although he did smash 2 huge sixes as he hit a quick 34. Arora reached his century in the 44th over with a boundary, and he ended unbeaten on 106 with 11 fours. 276 for 4 should be enough to win any SPCU match.
Jay Bhalani had taken 5 for 11 in his last visit to Forfar, and he carried on from there as he had Joya lbw 3rd ball. This brought in Noon Muhammad and having taken a single off the last ball from Jay, he duly drilled 2 short balls from Jamie Richards along the ground at a rate of knots to the boundary. It is pretty much conventional in the SPCU to hit any short ball over the infield to cow corner, but these were the shots of a classy batsman. Bhalani picked up another lbw in his next over then the 4 over spell from Richards was brought to an end as Muhammad took a masterful 14 from that over. Himanshu took an excellent low catch at slip to give Bhalani a 3rd wicket, and Alam contributed 15 to a 45 run partnership before he tamely lobbed to Gowda in the covers. Trivedi was lbw to Wig not playing a shot for nought and Khan was another lbw wicket for Wig. 2 overs later and it was the big one as Muhammad gifted a dolly catch off Wig to Arora, gone for 51. This was the best innings against Gordonians this season, with the rare play and miss, but everything had been along the ground and technically excellent. If his partners can stay with him he will win a game on his own, although he really should be playing at a higher level.
From there on it was a steady procession of wickets, with Sourav Singh, who had fielded exceptionally well, wrapping up the innings with 2 for 7. Kinloch all out for 107 off 26 overs.
