Match report The sun made a rare appearance for a much needed outing for both sides. Knight Riders batted first and Saraswat and Bhalani were the first bowlers to discover the new ball wasn't going to deviate off straight as much as they would have liked. It can be a thankless task bowling on the artificial, especially when the outfield is still recovering from a lot of rain and the rugby season, meaning the ground fielding can look remarkably sloppy. The outfield on the pylon pitch is generally very fast, but even at its most sluggish, it didn't take much for an outside edge, a sclaff, a heave, or even a very well timed forward defensive to race to the boundary.
Madan and Shiva had raced along to 51 before the latter was the first wicket to fall. All the betting money had been on a run out, but it was Akhlaq who induced a snick behind to remove Shiva for 25 with the last ball of his first over. The first ball of his next over saw Madan wander in front of middle, using his pad rather than his bat, giving umpire Stark an easy lbw decision, also gone for 25. The hat trick ball didn't seem to register with anyone but the bowler, but was resolutely defended anyway. Akhlaq could have had another wicket, but a diving Sree couldn't keep the ball in his glove as he sailed off to his right.
Rashid and Rowan took the score from 56 to 99 before Arora picked up an lbw decision to send Rowan back to the sidelines. 5 runs later and Arora sneaked one through the gate of Rashid, the eventual top scorer, out for 28. Chamila was in his 7th over before he picked up a wicket, and this sparked a rapid Knight Riders collapse. Talwinder Singh may have been making up the numbers to some extent, but despite incurring 3 no balls for pitching the ball off the pitch, this was obviously a ploy to lull the batsmen in to rash stroke play. Imran snaffled a catch at slip as Singh found his line. Somu had one look and had a bigger wind up than Tiger Woods as he aimed a shot in the direction of the hockey pitches. He didn't connect, but he did next ball as he edged behind to Sree for a duck. Chamila then picked up an lbw, and Singh knocked over the stumps to take his figures to 3 for 7. Adi was brought on for a bit of bowling practice, although it became a one ball spell as he finished off the innings thanks to a catch from Gerry O' Brien. Knight Riders all out for 125 and left to rue a few good starts to innings that didn't kick on, as they maybe tried to force the pace a little too much.
Sree and Aman opened and it was the latter who collected the first 6 of the season for Gordonians. The partnership was broken as Sree was bowled by Somu for 13, and Aman was run out for 26. Imran was a second victim for Somu as Gordonians were reduced to 47 for 3, but this brought Himanshu to the crease, and he went on to dominate proceedings as he brought up an unbeaten half century. Mayank must have eaten too much pasta as he dealt only in boundaries for his 18, and his departure brought Adi to the wicket. He added one run to his one wicket as Himanshu finished the game off to give Gordonians a 5 wicket win.
