Aberdeen Super Kings v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Sat 04 Aug 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Lost by 7 runs

Match report On a gloomy and stuffy day in Aberdeen, ALL Gordonian players arrived arrived at Graots road by 12:45 to meet home team Aberdeen Super Kings (ASK), only to realise there were only 2 of them there. Toss was won by ASK captain and they decided to bat first, probably not by choice! After setting up the facility, the game finally kicked off with 15 minutes delay! Experienced duo of Dolman and Dalgarno started the proceedings for Gordos. ASK scored runs at a decent rate for first 6 overs when they ran between the wickets with an intent. However, the stuffy day at hazelhead park was taking its toll and several breath catching tactics were employed in the next few overs. Things started to get interesting with the introduction of Jamie Richards who bowled at a lively pace! His first victim was dangerous Bashir who was the main run scorer thus far. ASK no.3 Maghesh did not trouble the scorers as he nicked behind to in the same over of Jamie - ASK 38/2 after 11 overs! Jamie made a mess of the stumps once more in his next over when he cleaned up Z.Rabbani. Second change bowler Ian Porter started off in a scratchy way, struggling to find line and length. But once he got warmed up and changed his angle from around the wicket, he found a good rhythm. So good that he picked up 2 quick wickets his next couple of overs! A poor calling and running between the wickets ran out ASK's other opener M Thapa back to the hut. Score read 71 for 6 after 19 overs. However, ex Gordos player Chetan was playing well along side Fernandez, both of who played some big shots and got a few handy boundaries. Chetan was caught off a full toss by Ian when tried to charge down the wicket but only managed to top edge it. Chovatiya also scored some handy runs after successfully playing out Jamie's full quota of 10 overs. Young Kanishka was given the opportunity to bowl and he picked up a wicket in his short spell of 3 overs, conceding over 9 rpo. ASK's final wicket was a run out in the 35th over by Mohit, but they managed to post a commendable total of 150 by then!

Gordos Innings started off well with usual openers Indy and MK, but did not flourish as it has been for last couple of games. Mk was bowled by Hemal in the 5th over who was bowling at good line and lengths at a good pace. Next Man AB came in and started off carefully. Chetan bowled at a good pace from other end but leaked runs. However, Indy mistimed a on drive of Chetan's slower ball which was safely pouched at mid wicket and both Gordos openers were back in the hut after 8 overs! Amith was prmoted to no.4 in the absence of usual Jamil and he batted well alongside AB for a crucial next phase of the game. AB was next man out, foxed out by a slower delivery by Z Rabbani, his only wicket of the game and probably the most important one! Club coach Stuart and Amith batted sensibly for next phase of the game where they steadily stitched a decent partnership and looked well set to see Gordos home. However, a lapse in concentration saw Amith getting bowled by newly introduced Bashir at 26th over with still 33 required to win. Next man Ian played some good shots and provided some good support to Stuart. Another twist in the tale came along in the 31st over when Stuart was bowled by Hemal in his last delivery of the 10 over quota! Gordos 133 for 5, requiring only 18 with 5 wickets in hand and 14 overs to play. But Bashir bowled a blinder of a over which saw him picking up 4 further wickets in next couple of overs making the score 135 for 9 very quickly! Young pair of Jamie Richards and Kanishka Desai provided some resistance and scored a few runs in the process too, Jamie being the main scorer. Jamie protected Kanishka well by manipulating the strike well, but Kanishka also defended well, particularly against his father Vishal who was playing for ASK! However, a fairy tale ending was not to happen this time when Bashir picked up his 6th wicket by bowling Kanishka with a yet another searing yorker! Gordos dropped 5 catches earlier in the day, conceded far too many extras and then lost their last 6 wickets for 24 runs. Not a very good read and not a very good result as it almost blows chances of promotion to Grade 1! Next week Gordos host Methlick at home and hope to get back to winning ways.
