Match report You never quite know what you will get from Arbroath these days in terms of competitive opposition, but this was very much a case of men against boys, girls and a sprinkling of huge experience. The Arbroath youngsters undoubtedly have talent, but on the day this was a bit of a mismatch. Aman won the toss and elected to bat. The first over saw Sree hit the first 4 and 6 of the match, and the score had thundered along to 40 in the 5th over when Sree tried to pull another short ball for 6, only to find that the Arbroath pitch isn't as bouncy as it maybe used to be, and it sneaked under his bat on to the stumps, gone for 29. Aman was joined by Sandy Richards and they added 94 in 20 overs before Sandy was bowled by Duncan. It looked like Aman was going to notch up another century but when he was on 65 he edged behind off Burnett. Saraswat, Bhandari and Wig all made solid contributions, and Arya Pol was unbeaten on 30 as the innings closed on 278 for 6. This was a day for someone to go big, but the pitch lacked a bit of pace, and at times it was a case of accumulating rather than free flowing stroke play.
Whilst Gordonians have upped their game in terms of the quality of their teas, the sheer variety on offer at Arbroath was hard to take in.
Arbroath wickets fell steadily, and whilst Arya took 3 for 19, the highlight was perhaps the return to bowling of Jamie Richards after bothering the NHS with various shoulder problems. It was no surprise that Talwinder Singh took the last wicket, but it was a surprise that he didn't throw in a few wides before finishing the Arbroath innings. Arbroath 75 all out, the day ending disappointingly for the club secretary as one of the umpires reversed in to his car.
