Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Perth Doocot on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 78 runs

Match report Donny had promised a belter of a pitch and when ASI Godonians won the toss and batted, the Perth Pro Akbar, coming off a very full run up, was stinging the hands of Brown behind the stumps. If you put enough in as a bowler, you got something out, and Abrar was out for 2 as he gloved an attempted pull off a quick shortish ball to Brown. Sree melted another ball that was slightly short, but the next one was pitched further up and demolished his stumps. 2 for 8 for the Perth Pro. Sarral at the other end didn't quite have the pace to stray off length, and his 4 overs went for 30 as the fast outfield gave value for shots. Aman and Himanshu put on 98 for the 3rd wicket, both creaming some wonderful shots for 4. Himanshu did survive a ball that he launched almost vertically towards the non existent cloud cover, but when the ball eventually headed groundwards, nobody had got their feet planted, and the ball found it's way to the grass. It was Himanshu who was out to break the partnership, a pull shot picking out Hill off Patterson, but not before he had registered another half century. Arora made 60 before being bowled by the wily Patterson, but others had come and gone without getting settled. The score had faltered to 179 for 8 before Bhalani joined Bhandari, and they added a very useful 50, unbeaten on 37 and 17 respectively, as they hoisted the total to 229. It had looked like a 270 to 300 wicket when Arora and Saraswat had been going at full tilt, but Patterson had put the brakes on with his 2 for 19 off his 9 overs giving Perth a bit of hope. On the downside, Perth were well over their 3 hour bowling allowance, and likely to face a points deduction. It is all well and good having a long smooth run up, but it does take time to get through an over.
You could tell who wasn't in the Perth top order as they dallied around the teas and filled up on pasta and samosas. Sullivan and Anderson were early victims for Bhalani and Saraswat but Akbar showed he is much more than a bowler as he dealt well with anything loose. Ridder offered patient support but when he departed for 10, the scoreboard was already putting pressure on Perth. Brown hit a couple of excellent boundaries but was unlucky as a delivery from Perera found its way through his defences and rolled agonisingly on to the stumps. 97 for 4 at drinks became 97 for 5 next ball as Akbar made his first error, Perera shooting one through on to the stumps. 2 balls later and he had Hill lbw for a duck, and the run chase was over. Perth settled down to accumulate batting points, and thanks to the experience of Pennycook and Patterson, they edged up to 151 for 9 off their 45 overs. This was a comfortable win for ASI Gordonians, but they still have room for improvement in terms of fielding and cutting out the habitual wides total.
