Match report Mannofield won the toss and elected to bat first. Their first team pro Ngoepe opened with Van Oorschot and Hamza kept them down to a single off the first over. Having got his eye in, Ngoepe then smacked a 4 followed by a 6 off the 3rd over as they scored fairly freely playing normal cricket shots. Swapnil brought himself on and bowled Van Oorschot for 17, the pro having dominated a 52 run partnership. Nanathakumaran didn't get off the mark, being well caught by Aayush off Chamila. Ngoepe continued to dominate, Russell lucky to survive a monumental juggle by the usually safe handed Rowell. Ngoepe brought up his 50 with a 6 off Swapnil but was then pinned in front next ball for 53 off only 36 deliveries.
Rowell had his revenge on Russell as his first ball zeroed in on middle stump and sent it cartwheeling. Stand in captain Will Anderson was very unlucky as Bashir smashed a Forbes delivery back towards the bowler, who cunningly deflected the ball on to the stumps at the non strikers end to run him out for only 3. 52 for 0 had become 90 for 5 and Gordonians were back in the game. Hegde was caught by Rowell off Forbes who then bowled Martin, but at the other end, Bashir was scoring heavily. His unbeaten 36 off 27 balls elevated the total to 141 for 7 off their 20 overs.
The experiment to promote Abrar to open only lasted one ball as he failed to clear the tall Sweeney on the edge of the circle. Hamza cracked Bashir to the boundary and Martin produced a very wayward over as Gordonians moved to 18 off the opening 2 overs. Lewis Munro had bowled well in the league match at Countesswells and carried on where he had left off by removing Sree third ball, a mistimed shot to point. Himanshu took 3 balls to play himself in then hit Bashir for consecutive boundaries, 15 coming off the over. Munro struck again as Hamza got a thick loopy edge to Sweeney at short third man, gone for 16 when looking threatening. The introduction of Sweeney at the other end brought the run rate to a grinding halt and he bowled Mayank in the 11th over with the total on 68. Swapnil had no problem with the bowling, rotating the strike with ease, but with few loose deliveries to go big on, Himanshu was lbw trying a switch hit off Findlay Anderson, having looked otherwise untroubled for his 30. Chamila couldn't get his arms freed up to threaten the boundary rope and Ngoepe took a return catch to dismiss him for 13. As the light was deteriorating, Chris did launch Ngoepe over the wall for 6 to keep the last over live, but 17 off the last over was always unlikely, particularly as Bashir kept it tight.
Gordonians finished on 130 for 6, and in a game of small margins, Mannofield bowled tightly at the right times, and Ngoepe and Bashir hit the big shots to post a challenging total. If they bat and bowl like this on finals day then the 3 Counties Cup will be returning to Aberdeen.
