Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Meigle on Sat 19 Aug 2017 at 13.00
Match was Abandoned

Match report The monsoon season had arrived the day before the visit of Meigle, and it was a real surprise to find the ground conditions were not far off playable when the teams turned up, Meigle having had the benefit of a McDonalds stop knowing a 1pm start was a bit far fetched. The delayed start saw the match reduced to 35 overs.
Aman won the toss and elected to bat, not personally, but as a team, his run of form suggesting someone else should have a go. Imran chased a wide one from Farmer to take a 3 off the first ball and then Himanshu safely saw out the rest of the over. Neave got the breakthrough in over 6, Himanshu mistiming a drive to a well judged catch catch by Josh Edington. After his display in the cup final, Mayank was elevated to number 3, and offered steady support whilst Imran tried to get his shot making in to action. Farmer and Neave were whipped out of the attack having bowled only 4 overs each, but not before Neave had extracted enough bounce to hit Mayank on the helmet, and generate obvious concern.....for the state of the ball, a chunk having being taken out of it by the helmet. Stewart and Scott both started well, although Imran did smash Scott for a big 6 at the start of his 3rd over. Having batted for an hour, and having survived a couple of unusually easy dropped catches, and looking as though his legs were about to give up, Imran nicked behind off Stewart for 28. After a long break from the game, his form has improved week on week, and he has shown glimpses of the class that made him one of the most feared batsmen in the Grades.
Debo came in at 4, having batted well in partnership with Mayank at Meigle, and he proceeded to smack the ball past and through the slip cordon at will. They took the score to 113 before Halkett, having just been hit for 6 by Mayank, managed to bowl Debo for a well made 29. From there wickets perished as Gordonians tried to pick up quick runs. Mayank eventually made a mistake as he was bowled by the returning Neave for a fantastic 62. Farmer took 3 wickets in 2 overs when he came back, but the damage had been done and Gordonians had a very respectable 156 for 8 on the board after their 35 overs.
A heavy shower arrived just as the players left for tea, but the delay was minimal before Meigle started their innings. Farmer wasn't hanging around and hit Himanshu for a boundary first ball and 5th ball. Lewis Cameron opened at the other end, the 15 year old a bit loose with his first 3 deliveries, but rattling the pads of Halkett thereafter. Farmer was in a big hurry and launched Himanshu for 6, dot, 4, then wicket, as Himanshu slipped in a perfect slower ball to induce a return catch. Clark faced 2 balls and then the heavens opened and deposited sufficient rain to turn the run ups and parts of the square in to a squidgy mess.
A potentially very close encounter was brought to an end, and the superb knock by Mayank was in vain.
