Match report It had seemed a while since Gordonians had played Strathmore and it took them a while to get familiar with their opponents. Having won the toss and elected to bat Dyson and Arora got off to a steady start with Van Pype and Akhtar keeping it tight in the first 3 overs, keeping the score down to 12. Arora hit the first boundary in the 4th over before being caught off Van Pype in the next over. Dyson dominated a 47 run partnership with Himanshu who was bowled for 13 by Kiyani in the 11th over. Hamza hit a huge 6 in a quickfire 10 and Mayank scored 16 in a partnership of 48 with the now rampant Dyson. McDonald managed to restrict the scoring to 2 off the 19th over but Dyson went to town on the last over from Kiyani smashing 22 to take his personal total to an undefeated 89 from a team score of 166 for 4.
Faced with a huge score, Strathmore opener Milne hit the first ball from Forbes for 4, then the 3rd ball, and for good measure, balls 5 and 6 went the same way. Surprisingly it was game on and Swapnil brought some calm to proceedings conceding only 3 off the next over. Forbes took a rest but Akhtar hit Krutik for a 6 in the next over to show that this wasn't going to be a capitulation. The score had rattled on to 62 in the 8th over before Arora rattled the stumps of Milne who had scored 31 off only 19 balls. This brought overseas amateur Van Pype to the crease and the ship steadied as Chamila went for 3 singles in his next over. With Akhtar being confined to mainly singles and Van Pype playing some classic cricket shots rather than having a swing, the run rate began to increase. Gordonians continued to protect the boundaries and were content to give singles and a few 2's. By the time Swapnil bowled the last over an improbable 21 was needed for victory. The first 3 balls were singles and a couple of 4's from Akhtar were not enough as Strathmore finished on 157 for 1. Lots of wickets in hand but arguable that it was their best batsmen who had already pushed them to a total they would not have expected at the outset. No man of the match award at this stage of the competition, but it would have comfortably gone to Adam Dyson for his boundary busting 89 not out.
