Match report The sun was shining at Mannofield and the conditions screamed 'bat first'. Will Anderson is one of the quickest bowlers in the league but Stark and Dyson took immediate singles, and the scoreboard rattled along to 9, as Anderson went off line, and past the keeper to the boundary. Jamieson opened at the other end and also had the keeper sprawling in vain as he strayed down leg. 17 off the first 2 overs became 20 for 1 as Anderson rattled the stumps of Stark with a perfect yorker. The wayward bowling continued and extras rattled along at an alarming rate. Rane then fell to a Jamieson yorker with the score on 38 midway through the 6th over. Lewis joined Dyson and they played some excellent shots, neither looking troubled as they took the score to 109 off 21 overs. It was a surprise when Lewis was lbw to Gamblen for 37, and an even bigger surprise when Sunny went the same way 2 balls later. Dyson was next to go, easily caught top edging a sweep shot off young spinner Anderson, for 41. Debo and Mayank started patiently, both finding runs hard to come by off the spinner, who duly bowled Debo for 15 as he got in a right fankle trying to manufacture a shot in to a leg side gap. Mayank then smashed the spinner over wide mid off, but was slow to get running, and was narrowly run out going for a 3rd that would certainly have been sent 'upstairs' in a televised game. 109 for 2 had become 142 for 7, and the threat of a huge score had been pegged back by the Mannofield slow bowlers. Arora and Mackay have been desperately out of form with the bat, but after having a look at the bowling, both tonked the ball in to gaps, and with the returning Anderson bypassing the keeper a couple of times, the score was hauled up to 211 for 7 off the 45 overs. A welcome unbeaten 29 for Arora and an equally welcome not out 24 for Mackay. Extras totalled 49 but Mannofield would have been delighted to have throttled back what looked like a potential 300 score.
The tried and tested opening partnership of Forbes and Mackay were straight on the spot, and Forbes picked up the prized wicket of Jamieson, excellently caught behind by Dyson for a single. Innes found runs a struggle until a cut shot found its way through the point fielder for 4. This set the scoreboard ticking over and Rowell replaced Forbes who had bowled 7 overs for a miserly 9 runs. It was Rowell who broke the half century partnership, rearranging the stumps of Innes for a well made 29. Findlay made a steady start picking up runs in the mid off area. Gordonians needed a wicket, and a controlled knock from Shay was rather tamely ended as he spooned one up off Rane to Mackay for 32. Although Mannofield had wickets in hand, the required rate was looking an uphill task and Anderson and Dickenson were bowled by Arora and Lewis as they chased runs. At 141 for 5 in the 37th over it needed Findlay to start peppering the boundary, but having got to 50, he smacked a short one from Hamish high towards the leg side boundary, and must have suffered agonisingly as Forbes sprinted around to take an impressive running catch. Lewis and Arora were too good for the Mannofield lower order, and the innings ground to a close in the 43rd over with the total on 168. As the season hurtles towards a finish, Gordonians moved in to 2nd spot on their own as Meigle narrowly lost to league leaders Forthill. Gordonians title hopes will now depend on Mannofield doing them a favour at home to Forthill next weekend, although Gordonians will have enough on their plate dealing with the visit of Perth.
