Gordonians won the toss and decided to bowl on a windy Saturday. The decision to bowl first seemed to be contemplated days before the actual match by captain KK, as planning cricketing strategies is his favourite pastime and likewise did not take a nano-second in deciding to bowl first on winning the toss. Gordos opened the bowling combining experience and youth in the form of veteran Mathi and debutant (league game) Cam McKay. Mathi starting from the practice nets end, was miserly with his bowling while Cam made the ball talk, cleaning up a clueless Norwood in the last ball of his very first over. Second opener R. High battled it out in the middle, caring a little of the few vicious hits to his body. His steely resolve and a little luck made him the top scorer for 2nd AGFSP with 63. Cam cleaned the tail up with little fuss and finished with figures of 4 for 27 in his 12 overs. Useful bowling contributions from last year’s award winner C. Perera (3 wickets), leggie Hiru (2 wickets) and I. Pandit (1 wicket and for reasons unknown named as Pandey in the score book). Noteworthy to mention that Pandey i.e Pandit got the prized scalp of R. High with a wonderful in swinger. Not too much fight from the other batsman as apparent from the 2nd highest score of 14 and 2nd AGFSP’s innings folding up for 146.

After an unexpectedly decent tea, Gordos went out to bat. Opening with Hiru and captain Kashyap. Hiru failed in his consecutive match, getting out for a paltry 9. Hiru tried to half sweep/ half drive/ half flick a low full-toss that went inches off the ground to the only fielder on the leg side who took a stunning catch diving low, fumbled once (or twice) and finally the ball coming to rest on his stomach. Captain Kashyap and deputy Pandit batted sensibly, clawing down the target score before KK getting out on personal score of 27. Some lusty pulls from the captain and a few beautiful drives from the deputy were the highlights of their partnership. After captain K’s dismissal and the team score at 53, Cam went out to bat with the target looking distant. A good partnership of 63 between Cam and Pandit ensured the match was within grabbing distance. Cam starting his innings with two sleekly timed flicks to the fine leg boundary. There was relief in the Gordos camp as a skier from Cam was put down at the long-on boundary and helped past the ropes by the fielder. But this did not deter Cam from trying the lofted shot again but this time the long-on fielder was a mere spectator as the ball sailed over his head. Just when the end was near for the AGFSP, they drew consolation from the wicket of Cam, getting out for a match winning 59 runs with 6 more needed for the win. J. Stark finished the proceedings in a jiffy with two singles and a boundary. Gordos finishing the target of 146 with five down. Whyte and Hemel getting a couple of wickets each and a lone wicket for Eagles during AGFSP’s bowling.
