Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Mannofield on Sat 06 Jun 2015 at 12.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 128 runs

Match report The Gordonians innings began in blustery and chilly conditions at Countesswells and the day immediately became even more unpalatable as Connor Shorten bowled Sree 2nd ball, following this up by having Sunny lbw 4th ball. Arora was lbw to Wood in the 6th over and Hamish and Swapnil duly dug in to resuscitate the remaining 39 overs, with Swapnil taking 24 balls to trouble the scorers. Shorten has just turned 15 and had to be taken off after 6 overs, and with Wood being replaced at the other end in a double change, the balance of the match shifted as the batsmen turned their attention from dogged defence to the occasional attempt to score runs. Hamish had looked pretty untroubled as he moved to 40, but was then dropped and survived a very convincing lbw appeal, as he seemed to lose concentration. They had put on 90 in 27 overs when Swapnil was caught for 35. With a foundation built, the accelerator was pressed, and 27 runs were scored in 3 overs, with Mayank only making 2 of those before he was out, not his best innings of the season, but having bought 4 pizzas for the tea, nobody was too bothered. With Debo rotating the strike effortlessly, Hamish was cutting loose, and had reached 90 before Shorten bowled him. It was maybe a bit breezy for the golden locks of Stark, and he was bowled behind his legs by Chandu for a duck. Carnage then ensued as Debo and Chris batted out the last few overs, unbeaten on 30 and 24 respectively, with Forbes smacking 16 off the last 4 balls from Wood who had only gone for 11 in his previous 7 overs. 218 for 7 was an impressive total given the loss of 2 wickets in the first over.
Having eventually got the oven on, it was pizza and pasta for tea, and a rare bout of compliments were received for the spread provided.
Former player Indy has never got runs against Gordonians and was lucky to survive an lbw appeal from Forbes in the 1st over, but fell to another appeal first ball of the next over from Forbes for 6. Nanthakumarun tends to start slowly but wasn't given the chance to build as Forbes bowled him with a peach of a delivery which broke the stump. His next over saw the end of Assiter for 8 as he dived to pick up a return catch. At the other end Arora picked up the wicket of the dangerous Wood for a duck, a sharp snick well held at slip by Swapnil. Swapnil repeated the trick in the 13th over as Innes became the 4th wicket for Forbes, who deserved a 5 wicket haul, and would have had it if Arora could have held on to a low chance at slip. With the top 5 removed in 13 overs, it was effectively game over, and the remaining batsmen did well to prolong the innings to the 44th over, Stark the eventual match winner, having Shorten lbw with an appeal that needs a bit of work. Forbes walked away with the man of the match award for his batting onslaught and his 9 overs that produced 4 for 6. Swapnil picked up 2 for 17 and Hamish 1 for 15, and Darri took 1 for 13 off 6 overs, although if you take away the 8 wides, it would look even more impressive. Gordonians move up to 3rd in the league.
