Match report A strong Aberdeenshire side elected to bat, sending in Yahathugoda and Venske. Left arm slow bowler Jones only conceded 1 off the first over, followed by Priestley at the other end going for 4 singles. In the 4th over Yahathugoda top edged off Priestley and was snaffled by Sree for only 3, one of his less cavalier innings at Countesswells. A couple of wides saw Jones hooked having bowled a respectable 3 overs for 14. Priestley then zoomed a delivery through the defences of Venske to send him back for 14, Shire on 27 for 2 off the first ball of the 6th over. Mitch replaced Jones and kept the scoring in check off his first 2 overs, only going for 11. At the other end Swapnil kept up the form he has shown all season, removing Martin stumped by Sree for 14. Van Berg then showed his class, smashing Mitch for 2 maximums, taking 17 off an over, before Swapnil had him caught by Mitch for a rapid 37. Tomlinson was caught in the deep by Rahul off Swapnil, and Rahul replaced Mitch, soon rattling the stumps of Howard, both the mid order accumulators gone cheaply, Shire on 90 for 6 as the 15th over came to a close. Reid and Proud kept the scoreboard ticking and survived a fairly inexplicable dropped catch by Phani, and a run out attempt by Aman, which was along the lines of a darts player missing the board when going for the bull. The Gordonians bowlers couldn't make another breakthrough, and the Reid/Proud partnership added 25 off the last 2 overs to take the total to 133 for 6. It would have been interesting to see how the innings may have unfolded if this partnership had been been broken.
Mayank and Sree opened and struggled to score off Buchan. Shire followed the Gordonians lead and opened with a left arm spinner in Howard. He proved equally miserly, although Mayank did take an early boundary off him. Whilst the early run rate matched Shire, Sree was dealing in singles, and fell for 6 in the 9th over with the score on 38. This sparked a rapid collapse as Aman was bowled by Shorten looking to get the golf shots out, soon followed by Swapnil and Stark to direct hits by fielders. Sandwiched between these wickets was Mayank, caught taking the aerial route, out for a classy 32, the score 45 for 5. Proud had taken 2 for 3 off 2 overs but Mitch launched him for a 6, taking 13 off the over. Mitch was then bizarrely run out, missing a ball from Shorten which rebounded off the keeper, as Mitch, unaware of where the ball was, just kept running towards Phani at the other end, almost completing the run before Reid leisurely gathered the ball and removed the bails, out for 13. Phani then returned to form with the bat, taking advantage of the wide open spaces to put some singles on the board before cracking Niven for 6, who promptly took his revenge to have Phani lbw for 26. This heralded the end of the innings, as Gordonians were all out for 95 off 19 overs, a respectable effort, the positives outweighing the negatives. Shire amassed 12 boundaries to the 6 by Gordonians, and their ground fielding was a level better, particularly within the confines of the fielding circle where Gordonians regularly fumbled.
