Kemnay-Kintore 2nd XI v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 3rd XI on Sat 26 Apr 2014 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 14 runs
Match report
The weather threatened to intervene with the opening game of the season, but fortunately Kemnay’s microclimate got the ground dried up in time for the start of play. Kemnay-Kintore won the toss, Campbell Airey continuing his poor form with the coin, as the home side opted to bowl first.
Gordonians opened the batting with Craig Pettit and Campbell Airey, what looked like a solid partnership on paper. A few loose opening deliveries from Kemnay-Kintore threw C.Pettit off his stride and he was caught behind off the glove after the three balls without troubling the scorers. This brought Jake to the crease and the first boundary of the innings. Jake wasn’t around long, again caught behind off J.Thom scoring just 7. Steven Brown was next to the crease, 11 dot balls built up the pressure, and Brown was caught at short mid-wicket for a DUCK. With Gordonians at 23/3, Stuart Dalgarno made his way to the middle. With Captain and Vice Captain at the crease the runs were surely going to start flowing? Some tight bowling from Kemnay-Kintore made sure this wasn’t the case sending Stuart back to the sheds having scored 1 run. Campbell Airey’s first game as skipper was not going to plan with a score of 32/4. Mohamed Shabir was next to the crease and Airey and Shabir added 12 runs to the score before Airey was caught at midwicket for a score of 13 after batting 23 overs! Jai arrived at the crease and looked in control of his shots. Mohamed was given LBW by umpire Dales for a score of 9 bringing J. Clark to the middle. Jai and Johnny made a good contribution to the score adding 20 runs to the score before Clark was caught for 13. Rajat made 2 before being the only bowled wicket of the innings and A Juneja made a quick 4 before being caught. Jai was running out of partners when Andrew Dolman walked out at number 11. Jai swung big missed and was deemed out LBW for a score of 21, with A. Dolman scoring a solid 3 not out.
The innings concluded with Gordonians having scored the small total of 100 runs from 38 overs. Kemnay-Kintore were extremely confident at the interval but Airey gave a better team talk than Mourinho and the Gordonians boys were pumped and ready to field for their lives!
By the time Kemnay-Kintore were out to bat there were glimpses of sun and it looked a good batting wicket.
C.Pettit opened the bowling and was dispatched for a few fours in his first 3 overs. Andrew Dolman opened from the other end taking a wicket in his second over with a slower delivery. It was at this stage when C Pettit asked for the pitch to be measured and it became apparent the pitch was 3 yards to long. Daley quickly adjusted his length and went on to bowl 9 over only conceding 5 runs taking 2 wickets giving him match figures of 3/24. Dolman finished his spell on 1/23. Jai followed on from Daley after drinks and took a wicket with his second ball leaving Kemnay-Kintore 67/5 and the game balancing on a knife-edge. Some steady bowling and back-to-back maidens from J. Clark built up the pressure, he finished on 0/19. Ashish Juneja, a newbie to the club came on after J.Clark with his rapid left arm swing and dried up the runs taking 1/7 off his four overs.
With some fantastic fielding and bowling the pressure was building, and Kemnay-Kintore were forced into some silly runs with Mohamed and Johnny benefitting taking two spectacular run outs, J.Clark with a direct hit from point.
It was Jai Reddy who finished the match off, taking two wickets in his final over to wrap things up with Kemnay-Kintore needing 16 runs to win,
It was a fantastic win for Gordonains cricket club and their new skip C.Airey.
