Match report With Crathie having bowled out Cults/Artisans for 20 the Saturday before, this had 'crushing defeat' written all over it. Gordonians arrived marginally before the 1pm start time and it was downhill from there as Rohit lost the toss and Harps and Karan were sent out to bat. After a solid few overs, Harps was LBW to McAra without scoring. Karan drove a McAra delivery to wide cover but was reprieved as it was spilled. And there endeth the luck. Karan hit a 6 and 4 as he top scored with 19 before a slow motion edge to 1st slip. Nipun made 13 before being caught off McAra. The change bowlers came on and only needed 11 overs to remove the remaining 6 wickets, Baldry taking 4 for 5, including Neil Smith who had looked in dominant mood having creamed a couple to the boundary. Rohit smacked one down the ground as he made 11 before shouldering arms to one on the stumps. It was soon 63 all out after 28 overs and as we made our way out to field, Jai appeared to make the number up to 11. Crathie kindly agreed to let him play, probably having thought victory was assured. And they were right, as Cunningham and Taylor looked like they had played on the wicket for years. Anything short sat up and begged to be hit and was duly dragged to leg. Harps only conceded 8 off his 4 overs but Rohit suffered a bit as the faster you bowled it the easier it seemed to be to hit. Change bowler Nampally put a bit of fizz in to his deliveries but with no reward. Mathi however, pitched it up and forced the batsmen in to aeriel hitting. Rohit took a half skyer over his shoulder when the good money was all bet on the ball making it to the grass. Nipun showed good reactions to take a fine juggled catch and Neil Smith easily pouched a chance that was probably harder than he made it look. Mathi took 3 for 7 off 5 overs, but the introduction of Mehta and Smith brought the game to a speedy conclusion with Cunningham 31 not out. As if a comprehensive defeat by a team with an average age double that of Gordonians was not bad enough, I can confirm that the tea break is not long enough to finish a second Crathie Mince Pie. Note to self - take a fork and knife next time to speed up consumption.
