Match report First match of the season and cue the anticipation and excitement for the season to start.... and what better game to start than an away game at the 'new' Duthie Park, after it was out of bounds for the best part of a year!

Crescent were the hosts, and after half an hour looking for stumps to put on one end of the pitch, the match finally begun. Having won the toss, they decided to bat first which worked in our favor as the cold overcast conditions gave rise to the ball swinging all over the place in the first few overs.

It didn't take long for the first wicket to fall after the batsmen attempted a cheeky risky run that led to a costly runout. First blood Gordonians! Helped by some tight bowling and equally impressive fielding, wickets continues to tumble regularly until V Balakrishnan and J Ali came to the crease and started a mini revival for the hosts. But it was not to last long and Rahul struck to dismiss J Ali with some clever tempting bowling that led to the batsman trying to hit him out of the park and succumb to the dreaded LBW. Dales continued to squeeze the run scoring with an accurate and ruthless spell of outswing bowling, bamboozling the batsmen at times, who had no clue on what to do.

Up stepped the Crescent Captain, Nathan to add some credibility to the scoreboard by hitting some huge sixes of the ground to ensure his team were still in the tie. However not to be overawed by it all, the Gordonian bowlers struck back and ensured the score was kept to 145.

The Gordonians innings got off to a great start with Indy and Karan leading the charge with some stylish cover drives and solid defending, making sure no early wickets were lost and kept the pressure firmly on the opposition. After Indy departed for a solid 13, Karan took the scoring to hand and kept the scorecard ticking away, while being ably supported by Dev, Mayank and Phani through he innings...

In the end the target of 146 was reached with well over 20 overs to spare.

It was a good start to the season and top of the league is not a bad place to be... long may it continue... :-)
