Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI v Dunfermline Knights on Sun 02 Jun 2013 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Dunfermline batted first in the CS Challenge match at Countesswells. Joe opened the bowling and immediately worked up a bit of pace to make the batsmen realise it was game on. At the other end Rahul also had the batsmen on the defensive and soon rattled the stumps of Azeem, who was followed back to the sidelines by Amir a couple of overs later in similar fashion. A big LBW appeal against batsman 5 was answered affirmatively by the Dunfermline number 10 who was a qualified umpire. A 4th wicket for Rahul came by way of a catch by a nervous looking Selkirk. Before Rahul finished his spell tempers boiled over as the replacement umpire turned down 3 LBW appeals in 3 balls. This was soon followed by a clean bowled that was called as a no ball. It is never a pleasant sight to see players holding others back when confrontation seems possible. Eventually cricket restarted and Phani replaced Joe who rather spoiled his figures by bowling a succession of short balls that were helped to the boundary. Phani was unlucky when a square cut was top edged between keeper and slip but he benefitted from the LBW stooshie when opener Sharif lost concentration and had a swish and was clean bowled for an impressive 35. After his departure it was apparent that the remaining batsmen did not have his array of shots and batting out the overs became the challenge. Indy had 2 wayward overs in terms of length and Mayank had 3 overs that were wayward in terms of direction. Aman bowled 3 overs taking 1 for 2 before being replaced by Hiru who had the batsmen mystified no matter what length he bowled. He almost took a couple of wickets bowling guys behind their legs but the downside of just missing were wides being called. He eventually was given an LBW by the umpire who had earlier turned down the Rahul hat-trick of appeals, this one appearing the least likely of the lot. Dunfermline were all out for 122 in the 32nd over and Gordonians had generally bowled well on a belter of a wicket and used up a full seasons quota of barbed banter in a short space of time.
A quality and peaceful tea was taken before Messrs Stark and Kashyap opened the innings. Stark didn't look comfortable when Norman pushed it through outside off but he took a liking to everything else in his zone and combined sharp singles with well hit boundaries as his hair barely moved in the balmy sunshine. He was eventually LBW for 51 after an excellent partnership with Karan who hit some nice boundaries but took equal pleasure in caressing the ball in to gaps and making the fielders look sluggish. Mayank made a rapid 18 including smacking a ridiculously thrown bowl for 4. Karan was 27 not out as the game ended slightly farcically with the 4th bowler bowling a succession of wides to end the game in the 15th over. Glasgow Accies travel to Countesswells for the next round.
