Match report All the debate about what to do if we won the toss was predictably a waste of breath as Stark lost the toss and Arbroath grabbed the opportunity to bat first on a belter of a track. It was a bit of a surprise when Petrie lobbed a comfortable catch to Ash, gone for a duck. Every cloud has silver lining, and so it proved for Arbroath as McGill came out swinging and clobbered 27 before being bowled by Mayank in the 6th over. Ritchie was next in and had a brief look at the bowling before opening his shoulders. At the other end, Ford was in spendid form and smacked 57 before becoming a 2nd victim for Mayank in the 12th over. Bartlett was out to the hopefully prolific combination of stumped Devlin, bowled Jones before Ritchie, who was slowing down, was clean bowled by Jones. Mayank and Marc both finished with 2 for 28 but the other bowlers took a pasting, the 2 dropped catches being somewhat irrelevant as the home side totalled 202 for 6 off 20. In reply, Dev thought the odds were in our favour, so he played out a maiden 1st over to let Vai rip in to the bowling of Ford at the other end, cracking the first 3 balls to the boundary. Vai was a bit unlucky to be caught on 36 as it looked like a sweetly timed shot was going to land on the covers before nosediving in to the hands of the fielder. Very unfortunate as he had taken 12 off the first 3 balls of the over by Bartlett. In his next over Bartlett bowled a front foot no ball, perhaps fancying the challenge of offering up a free hit to Dev. It was a total surprise to most when Dev carted the ball off to cow corner for 4. Dev went for 19 in the 8th over with the score on 73, to signal a collapse with more ducks than your average Chinese takeaway menu. Mayank made 10 and Jason was predictably LBW sweeping after scoring 8 singles, as we crumbled to 100 all out. Was the trip worth it? The answer was a resounding 'yes', as Arbroath offered up a choice of Lasagne or Pasta for those who had room left after scoffing the pizza and other tasty offerings. Who cares about the result when you are full of the best tea in Scotland!
