Match report A glorious day at Huntly was somewhat spoiled by Gordonians snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. A bonus early breakthrough as Rahul trapped Aussie Brooks lbw for only 6 was followed by a wicket for Darri as Rough was caught for a streaky 12. Ferguson played a couple of trademark sumptuous drives before falling to Darri for only 15. This set the stage for Mitchell to dig in and score an excellent 59 before falling to Hiru who also picked up Whyte for 18. It looked like Huntly were struggling but some woeful fielding let them off the hook as catches hit the deck and hands disappeared on the ground. It was a bit of a surprise to see Nicol bludgeon his way to 37 and a bit of support from Critchley and King took the total to 197 off 45 overs. Rahul took a bit of punishment picking up 3 for 58 on a wicket that offered a bit for the slow bowlers, a pity we didn't have James Cowell bowling spin!
The Gordonians innings started in familiar fashion as Karan and Dev were out cheaply. Nipun made batting look easy until he was out for 20 and Phani looked in total control until being caught for 18. Chamila also showed a bit of form before pulling a rank long hop tamely to short fine leg for 17. At the other end Stark was looking like a match winner, and when he was joined by Ash it looked like we were coasting to victory. Nicol had bowled his first 8 overs noticeably down on pace and offering minimal threat, so he needed a bit of help in his 9th over from Jason and Ash who both fell lbw for 44 and 17 respectively, Jason missing a juicy full toss and Ash stepping in front. Even then victory looked possible as Hiru got the long handle out, pulling a short ball viciously for 4 and looking like he could earn the nickname 'Hiru the Hero', but Darri and Marc hadn't read the script and both were caught leaving Hiru high and dry on 21 and with 4 overs still to face, an agonising 24 runs short.
