Meigle v ASI Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI on Sat 04 May 2013 at 13.00
ASI Gordonians Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Captain Cowell lost the toss and Dev and Indy stuck on the pads and ventured out in to the windswept tundra conditions of Meigle. The umpires found some heavy bails to combat the strong wind and Dev broke with tradition by getting off the mark straight away. Dev dealt in singles and Indy hit 4 boundaries in his 26 before being first out after a partnership of 46. Dev was bowled next over for 13 and Stark popped a return catch to Christie soon after. Cowell steadied the ship and showed off his fitness by refusing to hit boundaries and running 3's instead. He made 22 before managing to play over a yorker. His 41 run partnership with Mayank provided a platform to up the scoring with Ash, who nudged singles almost at will as he scored 28 before being run out. Mayank hit some delicious 4's and was run out on 55 as the total went to a respectable 178 for 6 off 45 overs.
Meigle know how to put on a tea, perhaps trying to slow down the fielding side.
After 9 overs Meigle had struggled to 20 but hadn't lost a wicket. The change of bowling to bring Mayank on went a bit pear shaped as he found the wind a bit of a challenge. His first over went for 17 and the Meigle openers kicked on to 64 before the first wicket fell in over 15. Darri took the wicket but he was indebted to the full length diving catch by Cowell at mid on. Having removed Starkey for 34, Darri then had the other opener LBW in his next over. Number 3 Laing put on his slippers, got out his pipe, and settled in for the afternoon. At the other end Kneale hit Jonesy for 6 then fell tamely next ball to another catch by Cowell. The Pro switched ends and bowled in to the storm, teasing out 2 wickets and completing his 9 overs for a miserly 18. Chamila was belatedly brought on to bowl and had Laing dropped first ball, before he hit the winning runs next ball, unbeaten on 56 as Meigle cruised home in the 40th over. Gordos were left to rue the 31 wides, 5 dropped catches (although it is a bit unfair to include a drop by Cowell who covered the ground like a gazelle, leapt like a salmon, caught the ball like a squirrel catching a falling nut, only to spill the ball when his elbows crashed on to the ground) and some careless ground fielding as they withered in the wind.
Lots of positives but Meigle played the conditions better and deserved to win.
