ASI Gordonians U13 travelled to Goldenacre Playing Fields in Edinburgh on Sunday 5th August to take part in the U13 Scottish Cup Finals Day. Our first game saw us take on Meigle who posted 86 for 6 off their 20 overs including 1 retired out. After a solid opening stand, Gordonians chased the total down in 15.4 overs for 2 wickets and 1 retiree in a well managed run chase.
Carlton v Ferguslie was the other Semi-Final being played and after a tie, Ferguslie were deemed the winners on wicket count back.
On to the Final...
8 man Ferguslie batted well and posted a strong score of 100 in their innings.
Gordonians' openers started well, providing a solid platform just below the run-rate against a very competent bowling attack. A couple of quick wickets fell and the game looked out of reach until the scoreboard was quickly pushed along by big shots from the middle order. More wickets fell and Ferguslie's tight fielding kept the run rate down until our last wicket partnership required 3 runs off the last ball to win. A fortuitous two runs off the last ball saw the scores tied and Gordonians were deemed the winners having lost the least amount of wickets.
The youngsters played extremely well all day against some quality opposition and should be very proud of what they have achieved.
