Match report The rearranged 3 Counties Cup finals day was held at Meigle. They had evidently had a fair amount of rain and the outfield was lush, but play started on time as Arbroath won the toss and chose to bat in the semi final. A sharp bit of fielding by Aayush Das saw Ryan Plomer run out for 1 in the first over, and in the 3rd over his brother Ben was clean bowled by a beauty from Saraswat. Cameron had hit a 4 and a 6 off Arora but he departed for 11 as he snicked a swinging ball from Saraswat to the keeper. 19 for 3 off 5 overs and Gordos in a strong position. Saraswat bowled through conceding only 8 from his 4 overs. Over number 8 from Perera was a wicket maiden as he trapped O'Mara lbw, the score now 27 for 4 off 8 overs. 12 overs up and Arbroath had struggled to 42 for 4. Something had to change and Peal got his running shoes on to take four 2's in a row off Bhalani. Das came on to see if the pitch was taking spin and his good first four balls were somewhat spoiled by Snyman who got the long handle out and smashed the final 2 balls to the boundary. Bhalani bowled out his 4th over for only 4 runs and bowled Peal off the last delivery for 19. 66 for 5 off 15. The experienced Mark Edwards concentrated on rotating the strike with Snyman but it wasn't exactly scintillating stuff until Snyman launched Rane for a big 6 off the 2nd ball of the final over. The onslaught stopped there and Snyman holed out for 31 off the last ball, although it was a bit of a surprise when Perera made the catch look easy. 93 for 6 off 20 and only 6 boundaries. Some very good shots stalled in the outfield and as the sun appeared, Gordos would have been hoping the outfield would speed up.
Abrar opened with Himanshu and Craig Ross only went for a single off the first over. Snyman was noticeably quicker than the other bowlers on show but Abrar took 8 off his over. A slightly short ball from Ross was superbly cut in front of square for 4 by Himanshu, but he then top edged a short ball, caught for his one scoring shot. Ross, Snyman, and then Jon Burnett, bowled excellent lines and let the pitch make scoring difficult. Abrar had smashed Arbroath to all parts of Doocot Park in the 2018 semi final, but it was becoming obvious that this was going to be no procession. 29 for 1 off 7 overs, and then the tide turned as Burnett had Imran and then Abrar caught off the last 2 balls of the 8th over. Wig and Bhandari steadied the ship, and Bhandari hit the shot of the day as he bulleted a ball from Brewer back over his head for a maximum. 51 for 3 off 12 and Wig was out in the next over, but 7 runs had been added in the scorebook. Bhandari edged behind in the next over and Perera was sent in to swing the bat. 71 for 5 off 16 and the game looked as though it could go either way. Rane was well caught by Ben Plomer but the Arbroath celebrations looked premature as Perera swashbuckled 2 boundaries off the same over. 79 for 6 off 17 overs and Gordos favourites again. But from there it was a case of swing and miss as the runs totally dried up. Only 8 runs came from the last 3 overs as Ryan Plomer, Ross, and Snyman bowled 18 of the best balls of the match. A shock 6 run win for Arbroath who went on to lose the final to Dundee High.
