Academy v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Bright and glorious conditions prevailed on the day. Having lost the previous encounter with Academy, Gordonians were raring to take revenge. Rumours were doing the rounds that the Academy boys asked one of the Gordos to bring in a better team after their previous encounter.
Skipper Karan lost the toss and the Gordos were asked to bowl on a pitch which looked very unpredictable. Rohit and Darri, started the proceedings for Gordos with tight line and lengths. Rohit in particular produced a fiery spell, cleaning up their opener, Kache for a duck. Gordos were on top when they reduced the opponent to four for very little on board. That is when the partnership between Sarath and Amol flourished, with the latter top scoring with 68 not out. Sarath made a quick fire 40 and Jamil was another note worthy contributor with 31. Academy made an impressive 201 in their full 40 overs. The Academy boys were grinning from ear to ear after the first innings, confident that the target was beyond Gordos’ reach. Tea was served below the grove of trees just outside the boundary which was enjoyed by humans as well as the sea gulls (with Darri keeping a close eye on the sandwich snatching birds).
Gordonians started their innings with openers Pandit and Doley. Academy had their tails up and removed Hirupam Doley cheaply for 4. Indy Pandit on the other end was dealing only in boundaries and looked in ominous touch (he had to, as he had spectators coming all the way from India to see him bat). But he perished trying to hoik J. Khan over long off after an impressive 23. Jamil Shaikh and Phanidhar Pratipatti steadied the ship until the drinks break. With the run rate creeping up with every over, the Gordos bench was pretty nervous and the target seemed like the peak of Mount Everest. Soon after drinks break, Jamil Shaikh was out caught to a controversial decision by the leg umpire (our very own Mathivarthanan Suthanthiran) who did not signal a no ball to a full delivery that Jamil hit almost like a lawn tennis service shot. In comes Chamila Perera with his typical nonchalance. Phani at the other end kept the hopes alive but struggled with cramps and falling to the ground with agony at times. Physio Hiru came to his rescue giving him the necessary drinks and stretchings. Chamila was soon run out after getting hit in the place not describable a few deliveries earlier, with a well made 18. In comes the skipper, Karan Kashyap. 80 needed off 14 overs, all odds against Gordos. But runs flowed from the bats of Karan and Phani. Karan seemed like he had been batting since the first over of the innings and saw the ball like a big ripe pumpkin. Even his front foot semi drives were reaching the boundaries in no time. Phani also kept pumping the bowlers to all parts of Duthie Park, one over cow corner was particularly impressive. The boys soon conquered Mount Everest with 16 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand. Karan made a skipperly 42 and Phani made a match winning 74. Hope we see a similar performance in the cup final against Methlick. Not to forget that the cheering from the sidelines was as impressive as the batting (cheered the 6’s, the 4’s, singles, wide balls, no balls and even dead balls).

Carry on Gordos !!
