Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 2nd XI v Aberdeen Super Kings on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 8 Wickets

Match report On yet another glorious day at Counteswells, Gordonians hosted Aberdeen Super Kings for the 5th round of the Grade 2 league draw. ASK Skipper Rama won the toss and decided to bat first on a wicket that has looked same all season so far. However, opening pair Jamil and Dolman found something in the pitch and won the numbers race of overs against runs until 7th over when score was 6 for none! Dolmanator and 'Sheikh of Swing' was having none of this silly numbers game and started disturbing timbers in 2 consecutive overs - both ASK openers back in the hut! A.Bashir was in next who turned out the senior of the two A.Bashir of Grades cricket, but this one was more a sensible version. He played every ball to its merit and reached 25 in good time after a slow start. Bashir was given a life when Indy dropped him behind the wicket but thankfully no damage done as next ball he was caught at mid wicket, one more of Dolman's scalp! Ex Gordos player Chetan was in next and wanted to hit everything out of the park right from ball one, and in some cases he succeeded too! He was particularly ruthless against Mathi, but the veteran Mathi had the last laugh when he deceived Chetan with a late outswinger that crashed on to middle stump! Some resistance was put up Wilson D'souza who was impressed by young talent Aayush's leg spin and maybe obliged him with his wicket. Last wicket D.Fernandez was not happy to be given out as the ball brushed his gloves and not bat, but apart from that overall first innings was completed without any major issues.
As the Gordos home games' tea are becoming something of a legend, it takes time to make one! So Gordos went straight out to bat chasing 122. Usual opener Mk found a new partner, not in real life but in cricket innings opening - Aayush. Mk dispatched the first ball to the boundary and tried to do the same next ball which kept low and crashed onto his stumps. Indy went out to accompany Aayush and together they built a partnership of 75 runs until Indy was adjudged LBW for 34. Gordos' own 'wall' Jamil went out to bat in an verbally hostile environment to which he responded brilliantly, he fell on them as a wall of bricks! His 6 over the backward point was particularly impressive of all assault. Aayush got to his flawless 51 where remained unbeaten and Jamil also saved some of his aggression for the return leg and saw us through with a quick 20 not out. Runs were chased in 24.3 overs. Gordos were warned by ASK that they will face a stern challenge in their following day's 20/20 clash. But little did they know - like Avengers have Hulk, we have AB playing next day! Although Aayush batted brillantly for his 51 no, but the spell from Dolmanator which saw 4 crucial early wickets set the tone of the match, hence MoM goes to Dolman, well done!
