Meigle v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report This was a game of 2 halves......neither of them particularly good for ASI Gordonians! Even the energy intake at McDonalds at Forfar didn't do much for the visitors. It was a humid day and a bit of cloud cover persuaded Meigle to ask Gordonians to bat. Gordonians have had the better of Meigle of late, but had saved their worst performance for quite some time for the earlier league match at Countesswells, and surely they couldn't bat as badly?
The conditions were perfect for the swing of Stewart, and gave a bit of help to Neave as well, and it was the former who had Imran caught for 6 in the 3rd over. Wig at 3, smacked Neave for a boundary, but he didn't play a shot to the next ball, and despite being well forward and outside off, he did give the umpire a decision to make, a strong appeal for lbw being upheld. Saraswat had an eye infection and his right eye was partially closed, which wouldn't have helped as he got a bottom edge to the keeper, the score now 15 for 3. Arora was digging in and keeping his stroke play to a minimum, and he was still only on 5 as the 4th wicket fell at the other end, Arya bowled by a good ball from Stewart for 8. Halfway through the 11th over, Gordonians 25 for 4, Meigle giving very little to hit, and the outfield surprisingly slow.
Rane guided his first ball for 4 but found it tough going thereafter. The sun had begun to break through and the heat was making it tough for everyone, although Arora did manage to hit a couple of glorious boundaries off Neave to hasten a well earned rest for the bowler. A lapse in concentration from Rane saw him caught by Clark off Stewart for 10, and 56 for 5 duly downgraded the suggested par score of 170 to anything near 150 being considered competitive.
Bhandari was as watchful as the game and the conditions merited, taking 30 balls to accumulate 3 singles. At the other end Arora was starting to settle and pick up runs regularly, and they ran a 3 to take him to his half century. They had put on 52 when the wheels fell off again, Bhandari caught behind for 11, and then Sree bowled by Clark 2 balls later. 108 for 7 turned to 119 for 8 as Chamila was lbw for 3. Jamie Richards went in to full defensive mode supporting his skipper. Despite being somewhat of an athlete compared to the majority of his team mates, Jamie somehow managed to twist his ankle whilst completing a run, and after a long delay, the confusion of having a runner was publicly evident. Jamie was still on 0 as the score ticked over to 135, and an uncharacteristic shot from Arora saw him caught for an otherwise superb 76, which on another day with a faster outfield would have been a century. Ian Porter made his way out with plenty of advice about batting the overs etc, and he did well to score 9 and take the final total to 151, although if they had batted the full quota of overs, Meigle would have been looking at a points deduction for their over rate.
With Richards advised to rest his swollen ankle, Gray was relieved of his scoring duties and donned his whites to sub field, instantly regretting his consumption of Meigle cakes. By now the sun was baking more than Mary Berry, and the outfield was transformed from tortoise to hare speed. The ball barely moved off straight for the bowlers, and even though the odd play and miss was in evidence, it was soon apparent that batting second had been a great decision, and that the Meigle batsman would have to throw their wickets away for Gordonians to have any chance of winning. Whilst the other bowlers wilted, Arora came on and had Saeed superbly caught by Saraswat at slip for 10, a catch he later bettered. Duff had dealt in dots, 2's and 4's but he was the second victim for Arora, out for 34. Harvey was run out for 30 without really looking comfortable, but Gayashan showed why he is topping the run charts as he imperiously moved to 48. With the result cut and dried, Porter was brought on, and he didn't even get a chance to complete his over as 3 boundaries from Gayashan, brought up his 50 and then the very premature end of the match.
A 6 wicket win for Meigle in the 26th over, and the change in the conditions had made the Gordonians efforts look far worse than they actually had been, but it doesn't mention that in the scorebook!
