Stoneywood Dyce v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI on Wed 08 Jun 2016 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 140 runs

Match report A gloriously sunny day at Stoneywood and a few people were standing in strange places with cameras. Had the interest in local cricket brought out a battery of press photographers or had Mayank been mistaken for a Bollywood superstar yet again? Prior to the match a minute's silence was held in memory of Inverurie captain Kenny MacLeod, who had collapsed and died at Crathie the previous Saturday.
Swapnil won the toss and elected to bat. Debo picked up a boundary off the 2nd ball and this illustrated just how fast the outfield was. Overseas boys Garrard and Arnold were getting something out of the new ball and batting was looking a struggle with Arora taking 16 balls to get off the mark. Whilst Arora was playing himself in, Debo had already moved to 9, and in the 4th over he threw the kitchen sink at a ball outside off, but only succeeded in rocketing it to Andy Rayner at mid off and his brief innings was complete. As the over from Arnold progressed, even Krutik played and missed, a rare event, but normal service was resumed as he hit the final ball of the over for 4. A 2nd maiden from Garrard and then the flood gates opened in terms of free scoring as KP took 3 boundaries off the next over from Arnold. 40 runs came in 6 overs before KP was unfortunate to snick one from new bowler Rosie down leg to the keeper, out for 19. It didn't take Himanshu long to get his eye in and some loose stuff from Rosie was helped to the boundary bringing his spell to an end after only 3 overs. At the other end the introduction of Owen Davies suggested that taking the pace off the ball might be a good idea, an idea which inspired Himanshu to try to put as much pace back in to the ball as he could muster, only to sclaff (it isn't in the dictionary but you know what I mean) a looping shot to point, out for 16. Mayank came in with the score on 90 in the 17th over and it had become apparent that the cameras were not for him, but for 9 little red planes who made a hell of a noise and made the playing of cricket very difficult! As the planes took a break from their exhibition, Arora had embarked on his own exhibition, the complete guide to quality batting, as he went to 50 off 60 balls, an achievement that was met with silence as the Gordonian players either didn't realise it, or expected much more. Mayank had settled at the crease but impatience got the better of him as he was LBW to Davies for 12 playing a shot that wasn't required. Hamza took his time over the first 11 balls he faced with 3 singles and then decided to play a few shots. His 1st six just made it over the wall at the south end of the ground, but the next one went further, and the next one even further, as time was lost searching in the long grass to retrieve the ball. His 50 came up off 32 balls, made more impressive by the slow start to his innings. Arora reached his century off 109 balls, a delight for the purists, whilst Hamza rattled to his century off a mere 55 balls, the highlight being a shot over the pavilion to leg that resulted in a lost ball, a huge hit. Even Arora hit a couple of 6's as the bowling attack changed regularly as the home side tried to stem the flow of runs. They had put on 199 in 82 minutes and 21 overs, when Hamza was bowled by Shah for 110, having broken a record or 2 along the way. 9 4's and 7 6's in his 59 ball innings, and a shame that the cameras were pointing elsewhere. Rane hit his first delivery for 4 but the hopes of Arora making it to 150 faded as he unselfishly took whatever runs were on offer for the team. As the innings closed on 340 for 6, Arora was 147 not out off 137 balls, a fantastic display of controlled cricket shots and concentration that deserves a few more superlatives than I can think of. This was the highest score by Gordonians in the top league of the Strathmore Union, and the first time 2 centuries had been scored in the same innings without one being by former Pro Anju Mudkavi.
Stoneywood-Dyce had not bowled badly, but a fast outfield and on form batsmen had made Peoples Park seem a very small ground, particularly for those bowling from the south end whose figures took a serious battering.
A huge tea was served up with perhaps a view to slowing down the Gordonian fielders, but it didn't have that effect as Forbes rearranged the stumps of Arnold first ball. KP cranked up the pace at the other end and the first boundary didn't come until the 9th over. Debo was first change but struggled with his line, and when Andy Rayner hit consecutive boundaries, it was time for Jones to work his magic. Rane bowled Shah for a patient 17, but a couple of beautifully flighted balls from Jones bowled Rayner and Davidson in the same over, Rayner having made 36. Jones went on to collect 3 for 32 which could have been better if Forbes hadn't shelled a fairly comfortable chance, although he was a bit closer to the bat than usual! Jordan Squire accumulated 32, but wides stole the show with 49 as a quick flurry from Rosie secured another batting point as his team made it to a respectable 200 for 9 in their 45 overs.
A glorious day of cricket slightly spoiled by the noise of the aircraft, particularly the 9 little ones who did as much damage to the environment as Hamza had to the local bowling attack.
