Match report If the quality of the warm up was to be indicative of the result, then the well oiled Forthill regime, compared to the Gordonians build up, where they had spent as much time at McDonalds than working up a pre-match sweat, could have persuaded onlookers that the league leaders Forthill, had this match in the bag. Gordonians captain Rane elected to bat first and sent the left/right hand combo of Dyson and Arora to face the first over from Garden. Dyson is evidently an impatient man on a Sunday compared to a Saturday, and smacked the first 4 of the day off the last ball of the over. Black at the other end kept it tight, but Dyson hoovered a couple of boundaries off the next over and a steady start saw 26 on the board off the first 4 overs. The introduction to the attack of Forfarshire Pro Beghin, brought an instant wicket, Dyson having a flash outside off and being caught behind for 15. Swapnil joined Aman, and their 6 over partnership added 31 as the unforgiving length of the boundaries put an emphasis on accumulation of runs rather than brute strength. The excellent spell from Beghin saw Aman clean bowled for another return to form innings of 27. 57 off 10 overs set a fantastic platform and the innings received a controversial boost as the umpire turned down a run out appeal against Mayank, who was at least a yard out, as his view was blocked by a fielder. Mayank took full advantage, smashing a huge straight 6 in to the field, and along with 4 other boundaries, his 30 off 15 balls had put Gordonians in charge. The less said about his shot for his lbw dismissal the better. Swapnil, Mayank, Hamish and Chris all fell to Hogarth, who must have been gutted when a fairly straightforward catch went down to deny him a hat trick, but all the guys had added runs quickly. The clatter of wickets had cut the run rate, and the 138 total was aided by the mature batting of Sunny who didn't try to hit the cover off the ball, but ran his way to 15 off 10 balls. The Forthill batting looked strong all the way down but the first challenge was the Forfarshire Pro. Beghin had bowled well, and having dealt comfortably with Cam at one end, he must have been as surprised as most of the Gordonians team when Swapnil opened the bowling with Sunny, a move which brought immediate rewards as Beghin popped a catch up to Swapnil. Richard Rennie showed no respect, dispatching his first ball for 4, but his innings was curtailed as Cam trapped him in front next over. 2 balls later in the over and Johnston had his bails disturbed for a duck. Things got worse for Forthill in the next over as Adam Hill was lbw to Sunny, who then got the prized wicket of Garden in his next over for only 2. 22 for 5 and Gordonians had one foot in the final. Black and Hogarth put on 20 before Swapnil bowled Hogarth. Watson joined Black and even though they were scoring at 7 an over, the required rate was rising. The introduction of Arora to the attack saw Black caught by the safe hands of Kristof for 40, and it was left to Sweeney and Watson to play out the overs, finishing 23 runs adrift.
