Match report The difficult part of getting to Freuchie is negotiating the right lane to get on to the Tay Bridge, and then the fact that Freuchie, as a village, doesn't appear on road signs until you actually get there. 2 cars arrived without too much fuss, another spent a bit more time in Dundee than expected!
The Freuchie outfield was in great shape and the pitch was better than expected for the time of the season. One boundary was short enough that the batsman must have been drooling in anticipation of easy runs.
Freuchie batted first and lost a wicket 5th ball trying to pick up a 2nd run after a bit of a fumbly overthrow. The opening attack of Cam and Chamila kept it tight although all the bowlers saw the benefit of a generous wides policy. Having settled in, Khalil and Birrell took a liking to the bowling of Darri and the final 3 overs of his spell went for 26. Arora bowled well although his 4th over went for 11 as Khalil dragged 2 pull shots to the under protected leg side. The score had gone from 32 off 11 to 75 off 17 and this prompted the introduction of Hamish and Swapnil. The first over from Hamish was a maiden and 6 identical play and misses from Birrell. Swapnil was keeping the ball stump to stump and had both openers lbw in quick succession. Vamsi and Hussein played some glorious shots but the run rate was steady rather than spectacular as Gordonians used 9 bowlers. Swapnil bowled a miserly spell of 7 overs taking 3 for 15 and Debo clean bowled Gibson as the innings came to a close on 161 for 6.
After an impressive tea, Hiru and Karan went out to bat. Karan was fortunate when an early attempted pull was mistimed and fell in to a gap, but his repeat of the same shot was not so lucky as he was caught for 2. Hiru had started well but was out in the 4th over lbw to a beauty from Gourlay. Aman Arora fell next ball to a similar delivery, the only difference being his pad didn't get in the way. The hat trick was averted but Gourlay cleaned up Cam with a similar delivery in his next over. 19 for 4 in the 5th over. Thankfully Gourlay was taken off after 4 overs and the change bowlers didn't have his potency, mixing the odd good delivery with some pretty average 'pies' to quote their skipper. Debo and Hamish led a comeback, Debo watchful, and Hamish crunching the worst balls to the boundary. They put on 50 before Debo got himself bowled for 30 by the spin of Birrell. Hamish continued to bat well until he managed to york himself off Birrell for 37. Chamila had swung at almost everything and fell straight after for 16. With Sree and Swapnil at the crease and looking untroubled, the runs kept coming, including one pulled boundary from Sree which hit the front door of a house so hard the owner answered the knock, thankfully finding no lasting damage. With the score on 150 and Freuchie looking a little bedraggled, the wheels came off as Sree was lbw, and then 1 run later it was all over as Swapnil tried to keep Darri off strike, possibly remembering his swipe/block/swipe innings from the previous day, all out for 151, 10 runs short with 12 overs still in the bank.
As with the day before, too many shots and not enough batting application, although the spell from Gourlay knocked the stuffing out of the early innings.
