Huntly v Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 1st XI on Sat 24 May 2014 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Rahul won the toss and put Huntly in to bat. Critchley is a good batsman but it was a bit of a surprise to see him open and he was soon bowled by Rahul. Overseas Amateur Bunnell at the other end was severe on anything on his legs and pinged a couple to the boundary. Ferguson at number 3 struggled initially but then started finding the middle, and it was a bonus for Gordonians when he chased a ball he should have left, being well caught behind by Dyson off Rahul with the score having rattled along to 47. The brakes needed to be put on the scoring and Swapnil did that by having Jack Mitchell tamely lob the ball to Mitch. With Ferguson and Mitchell gone with the score on 52, the hard work seemed to have been done, but Bunnell continued to feast on leg side offerings and survived a dropped chance as he made it to 49 in quick time. His innings then stalled and he played down the wrong line of a straight one from Mitch which rattled in to his pads in front of the stumps. The partnership of White and Mckay is found in many a Scottish household, but this on pitch version took the score to 98 before a direct hit from Aman Khan sent White back to the drinks cabinet, Mckay made a patient 23 before being decanted to the pavilion. Tout had taken his time to get his eye in, and Rough added some urgency before taking a risk too many as Debo fielded well to set up a run out. Morrison was out somewhat bizzarely as the ball virtually fell apart as he lobbed it tamely to Rahul who looked decidedly confused as the ball took on an egg like shape as it wobbled towards him. The ball was duly changed but Tout had little problem hitting either ball before he was bowled by Khan for 36, the last wicket to fall as Huntly finished on 161 for 9 off their 45 overs. It was a day for the slower bowlers as the faster guys took a bit of punishment, Swapnil again being the pick of those on show.
Tout opened the bowling and worked up a bit of pace but this didn't overly trouble Barman or Arora. It was Rough at the other end who made the breakthrough having Debo caught behind for 7. This brought Mitch to the crease and he hit some lovely drives for zero before he found a few gaps. Arora had cruised to 24 off 24 balls before becoming becalmed. The introduction of the wily Mearns ended his pain as he was LBW after 11 further dot balls. Hamish started solidly and the Overseas partners looked as though they had the run chase all sewn up. Bunnell had other ideas and tempted Mitch in to a rash shot, caught for 17. Adam then got his textbook defence in to play and stopped any potential middle order rot. The score had gone to 88 when Bunnell did the trick again, picking up a spectacular caught and bowled as Hamish went down the pitch when restraint may have been the safer option, gone for 26. Mayank then cut Bunnell straight to slip and the wobble was well and truly on. Swapnil played himself in and then took the attack to the Huntly bowlers taking the score for 94 to 135 before Adam was out for 24. His patience was essential and he didn't get value for some excellent shots. Controversy flared as Mitch at square leg turned down a run out appeal against Swapnil. The comments of 1 or 2 of the Huntly boys were out of order and Mitch, feeling as unwelcome as Prince Charles at a Vladimir Putin rally, headed to the pavilion. The ball was then changed as the stitching on both sides was peeling apart, and the manufacturers Lords, should be somewhat ashamed of their product quality. Swapnil went for a shot too many as he fell for 39, but the end was in sight, and Phani finished it off with 8 balls to spare. It was a surprise that Mitchell and Ferguson had not bowled, particularly Mitchell on a pitch that may have suited his slow bowling. The match was well umpired by Joe Davies. Gordonians will have to control their economy rates and shot selection, otherwise they will need medication for high blood pressure.
