Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians 3rd XI v Gordonians 4th XI on Sat 27 Apr 2013 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 172 runs

Match report With high levels of unavailability, including both Captains, it was a 9 a side start to the season. Stark & Brown opened for the 3rds. 3 boundaries from #newsreporter took him ahead in the scoring stakes until he looped one up to give McCabe his first of many wickets for the season ahead. Fresh from some glorious shots against Grammar the previous weekend, Stark was much less elegant as he clobbered his way towards what could have been the 100th century for the Club. On 84 he made the mistake of lobbing a shot in the air, and Sub Clark got in to a great position to pouch the catch and send Stark back to a spell of chain smoking between gulps from his stock of Relentless. Ash, who was using a bat that looked about twice his age, was next in line for the potential century, but was a rare clean bowled for Al whilst on 65. Al then repeated the feat to bowl Jonesy for 73, at least 50 of which were carted to leg. Sub Clark then ran out Viji to bring a declaration on 280 off 38 overs. Areeb bowled well without taking any wickets but nobody managed to bowl a maiden as the fast outfield made run scoring easy.
The early loss of Kenny just allowed Amar to knuckle down and showcase his imperious defensive skills. At the other end Scott got a bit carried away and was eventually caught for 31. Amar had a rare boundary in his 11. Courtney batted very well and her 3 singles were all from good shots. Osama took a while over his 17 and Al was a bit unlucky to have a full blooded edge caught behind by Ash. Areeb hit a boundary in his 11 and McCabe hit 2 boundaries as he was left not out on 9. The 4ths looked as though they could have comfortably batted the 52 overs available, but with the activated draw in play, and #newsreporter looking more and more bored by fielding in the freezing cold, Al had encouraged the batsman to open up. The 4ths were all out after 47 overs for 108 with Darri the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 22 off 12. The fast outfield and the new artificial could lead to some high scores this season, although the 4ths will probably be content with the continuing development of their defensive skills and slow accumulation of a few batting points.
