Gordonians Cricket Club Gordonians Sunday XI v Forthill on Sun 18 Aug 2013 at 13.00
Gordonians Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Having been royally stuffed by the Forthill kids at Broughty Ferry earlier in the season, Captain Neil Smith had a tough task on his hands to balance the need to involve everybody against the desire not to get battered by a side who would generally prefer juice to tea. Forthill batted first and Smith went for the jugular by opening with Sinha and Mahesh. Both started well and Rohit picked up an early wicket. They both got 4 overs each before Smith realised the scoring rate was so low that he might not have a big enough score to chase to allow him to bat. To solve the problem he turned to the Dolmanator and sure enough Forthill started putting runs on the board. The plan to chase a big score was then scuppered by Dolman removing the dangerous Lloyd for 20 and McNicoll for only 2. And so to plan B, the introduction of Mundin who hadn't read the script either and took 3 for 27 off 7 overs. Lockhart and Jalaj bowled well and took a wicket each but it was Dolman who returned at the end to wrap up the tail and finish with 4 for 39, Forthill all out for 122 in the 32nd over.
Aatish had batted the full 40 overs the previous Sunday in accumulating his 14, so evidently he deserved the chance to build on this and opened up with the much improved Seymour. Dolman padded up to go in 3 and must have expected a long wait. Crash, bang, wallop, stumps akimbo, and the first 3 were back on the seats before the Forthill scorers could get organised to score more than one book. Enter Smith and Vishnu, technical opposites, but determination personified, and Vishnu armed with the full quota of 9 lives that any Gordos Sunday side is allowed. Smith used to have a full array of shots but his recent visits to the Westhill gym have led to his musclebound frame playing short arm pulls off anything pitching more than 3 metres from him. Before he was out for 27 he cracked 6 fours and had fielders diving for cover rather than risk a trip to the hospital. Vishnu hit 3 fours before perishing for 16, bringing the Uni combo of #newshound Brown and #president Lockhart to the crease to guide us home to victory. But no, Dan the man went for zero and Brown ground out a vital 8 before getting out. Lots of runs needed and with Abi and Jalaj at 10 and 11 the writing was on the wall. But no, again, nobody had shown Mahesh and Mundin that particular wall, and Mahesh hit 4 fours and a six in his 25, Mundin a four and 2 singles in his 6, and with a pile of byes and wides, Gordos cantered to victory in the 31st over.
Smith enhanced his already mountainous reputation as a Captain, and it was left to Mundin to declare himself man of the match as Smith turned his attention to his date later that evening, an event that would surely test his technique more than the Forthill bowling had.
